SEXUALLY TRANSMITTED
INFECTIONS: A GROWING CONCERN
●Sexually transmitted infections (STIs) ) is a collective term used to
describe infections that are primarily transmitted through sexual
contact and can affect people of all ages and genders.
●Afew other forms of intimate contact that can spread infections

TREATMENT OPTIONS FOR STIS
●Bacterial STIs: Antibiotics
●Viral STIs: While there's no cure for some viral STIs like HIV
and HPV, treatments can help manage symptoms and prevent
transmission.
●Antiretroviral therapy (ART) is used for HIV, and antiviral
medications can help manage herpes outbreaks.
●The HPV vaccine can prevent HPV infection.
●Parasitic/Fungal STIs: Antifungal medications
10

Prevention Strategies
●Abstinence
●Consistent and correct use of condoms
●Vaccination (e.g., HPV, hepatitis B)
●Pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) for HIV
●Post-exposure prophylaxis (PEP) for HIV
●Sex education and counseling
●Addressing social and economic factors
