INTRODUCTION
The main goal of present research was to formulate and evaluate the anti-dandruff
activity of shampoo which was prepared from herbal plant. Dandruff can be completely
eliminated but can only be managed and effectively controlled. Herbal medicine has
become a global Important for both medical and economical. Antidandruff shampoo
prepared from herbal plant are more efficacious than synthetic medicine and which
shows some adverse effect. although uses herbal plant instead of systemic medicine
which have ability to improve the quality, efficacy and safety of shampoo. This study
investigated the anti-dandruff activity of Azadirachta indica (Neem) and Ocimum
sanctum (Tulsi) to clear the dandruff from scalp. Two plant which are selected for the
preparation of anti-dandruff shampoo shows antimicrobial and anti- inflammatory
activity.
Shampoo: -
Shampoo is hair care product typically, in the form of viscous liquid that is used for
cleaning hair.

PURPOSE OF SHAMPOO
The main purpose of shampoo is to remove dirt and oil from the surface of the hair
fiber and the scalp while the main purpose of conditioner some commercial shampoos
may also have additional component to control dandruff and condition hair

DANDRUFF: -
Dandruff is the major cosmetic problem & great public concern both in developed and
developing countries. The word dandruff is combination of ‘ten ‘meaning Letter’ and
‘drof’’ meaning ‘dirty’ Dandruff is a chronic scalp condition leading to scaling itching
redness of scalp by shedding epidermal cell. Scalp sheds dead cells in nearly invisible
way but sometimes sheds as visible flakes called dandruff. In physiological spectrum
of sealing about 487,000 cells/sq cm get released after detergent treatment. Many
herbal shampoos available in market contains herbal ingredients such as plant extracts
and essential oil. Tulsi, Henna, Neem, Lemon, shikakai are commonly used plants in
shampoo formulation of which some how anti -dandruff activity. The goal of using
shampoo is to remove the unwanted build- up in between the hair without stripping out
so much sebum as to make hair unmanageable Shampoo is generally made by
combining surfactant , most often sodium lauryl sulfate with a cosurfactant, most often
propyl in water. Synthetic shampoo may cause side effects so keeping this in view an
Herbal anti-dandruff shampoo has been formulated and evaluated scientifically. In
indian system of medicine, various plants its parts have been used for treatment of
dandruff such as Tulsi, Henna, Neem, Lemon, shikakai. Traditionally, single plants
have been used &there was no scientific report available regarding totally all
ingredients are natural regarding usage of such combination that we have conceived.

DRY SKIN DANDRUFF: -
It is also called as pityriasis simplex characterize by excessive formulation of minute
scales which accumulate on the scalp area. In this type of dandruff there is no excessive
hair loss. The inflammation on the skin no observed. The scales are first found in
middle of the scalp and then spread of frontal, parietal and occupational areas.
OIL RELATED DANDRUFF: -
Oil related dandruff happen when there is an accumulation of sebum oil on the scalp.It
is mostly found in young men following puberty. Inflammation of varied intensity
developed on the scalp along with oily scales of dirty yellow colour. Hair fall is mostly
found in this condition. The most common site affected by this type of dandruff is
scalp, behind the ears, over breast bone armpits. This oil can cause clumps all dead skin

cells and dirt forming itchy flakes. Stress &anxiety level cause high amount of sebum
oil secretion leading to the condition.
FUNGAL DANDRUFF: -
Fungal dandruff Fungal is a natural component found on skin and scalp. This fungus
survive on excessive oil.

HERBAL: -
A Herbal is a book containing the names and description of plant, usually with
information on their medicinal, tonic, hallucinatory, aromatic or magical powers, and
the legends associated with them.
HERBAL MEDICINE
Herbal medicine is the study of pharmacognosy and the use of medicinal plants, which
are a basis of traditional medicine. There is limited scientific evidence for the safety
and efficacy of plants used.

METHOD OF PREPARATION OF HERBAL ANTI - DANDRUFF SHAMPOO.
A) Preparation of plant Extract:
The Extract was prepared by simple maceration. Firstly, we were taken 20 gm of each
leaf of plants such as Neem and Tulsi, shikakai they were dried pulverized in air, and
then they were soaked with 200ml of water for 48hr. After 24hr solvent was decanted
and the residue again soaked with the same solvent for 24hr. The total extract was
combined and filter then the evaporation of solvent was done on heating mental this
was dried and stored in desiccator for further use.
(B) Formulation of anti-dandruff shampoo:
Shampoo was formulated using simple mixing process. Tulsi shikakai, neem extract
was mixed with other ingredients as give in formulation.
PREFORMULATION STUDIES:
Neem: - Antibacterial, wound healing activity skin ulcers, fever, cardiovascular
disease, liver problem
Tulsi: - reduced gastrointestinal disorder, it relieves signs of asthma, antimicrobial
wound healing activity
Aloe vera: - used in abrasion and skin irritation, anti-inflammatory.
Shikakai:- Anti-dandruff, anti-fungal, nourish follicles, Cetosteryl
alcohol: -opacifier in shampoos, emollient.
Sodium lauryl sulphate: - fat emulsifier, Detergent in cosmetics
Gur gum; Thinning agent, stabilizing agent
Methyl paraben: - Antifungal, preservative
Propyl paraben: -preservative, antioxidant and antimicrobial.
Lavender oil: -Flavoring’s agent skin application, Used in message Therapy.
Glycerin: - Minimizing the water loss.
Marigold: - Conditioner.
Purified water: - Solvent, conditioning agent.

EVULUATION
1.Physical appearance: - viscous in nature
2. Colour: - Brown
3. Transparency: - Non-Transparence
4. Consistency: - Smooth
5. pH: - The pH of formulated shampoo was determined by using digital ph. meter by
dissolving 1gm of shampoo in 100ml of water.
PH- 6.6 approximately
6. Consistency: - the consistency of formulate cream were determined by hand. Take
pinch of shampoo and rubbed it with finger.
7.. Percentage of solid content: - 25.75
6.Irritation test:- No irritation .
RESULTS: -
. This shampoo could become a media to use these medicinal properties effectively and
easily as simple dosage form. Natural remedies are more acceptable as they are safer
with fewer side effects than synthetic one, so a herbal anti-dandruff shampoo is
nontoxic, safe, effective and improve patient compliance as it contain herbal ingredient,
from the ancient time. this prepared herbal anti-dandruff shampoo was evaluated for
various parameters like appearance, determination of consistency, PH, from stability
and antimicrobial activity against staphylococcus aureus.

Conclusion
The main aim of formulated herbal anti-dandruff shampoo was to prevent dandruff and
their infections. it was concluded that the anti-dandruff shampoo which are prepared
from natural sources they show fewer side effect as compared to shampoo which are
prepared from synthetic compound The prepared wound shampoo was evaluated using
various parameter and was found to be satisfied for the application to the hair.
