Who is a Person with Disability :- A “Person with Disability” means a person having a physical, mental or intellectual impairment, that hinders and has a substantial, short and long-term adverse effect on the person's ability to carry out normal day-to-day activities. A person with a disability may need to depend on others to meet their normal life requirements, or use a special tool that requires training or rehabilitation.
Types of Disability According to the Persons with Disabilities Act, 1995 " Person with disability" means a person suffering from not less than forty percent of any disability as certified by a medical authority. In India As per Census 2011, the number of Persons with Disabilities in the country are 2.68 crore , which is 2.21 percent of the total population of the Country. Location: Disability is more prevalent in rural India (2.21%) than in urban India (1.93%). Gender: Disability is more prevalent in males (2.37%) than in females (1.87%). Social class: Disability is slightly more prevalent in the SC population (2.23%) than in the general population, but noticeably less prevalent in the ST population (1.92%).

Suggestion s The government should review and formulate new policies, government schemes and should also check accessibility measures and social inclusion efforts. Awareness among the people should be spreaded about various policies, schemes through camps etc. There is also a need to gather statistical data to assess the scale and impact of policies . Better treatment and Hospital facilities should be there for persons with disability . Census and Surveys should be arranged at regular intervals.
