CONCEPT OF SWASTHYA

Metabolic Activity = Catabolic Activity +
Anabolic Activity
Digestion Process
Food Digested material + Waste
There is excretory system for disposal of waste.
But all waste is not disposed off.
Results in accumulation of remained waste in
the body. It is converted to toxins in body.
Due to toxins the ‘absence of diseases’ state or
“samadoshaha, samagnishcha, samadhatu
mala kriya” is disturbed.

IMPORTANCE OF SHATKARMA

Detoxification(detoxfor short) is the
physiological ormedical removal oftoxic
substances from the body.
The main purpose is to restore homeostasis of
the body.
Usually, our mind is cluttered from many
unwanted thoughts -Vrittis.
By the practice of Shatkarma(more especially
trataka), we can bring a state of steadiness in
mind.
ShuddhiKriya-Shatkarma….
The ancestor or origin of all “detoxification”
methods.
DETOXIFICATION

WHO SHOULD PERFORM
SHATKARMA?

GherandaSamhita
GherandaMuni recommends ShuddhiKriyas
(Shatkarmas) as the mandatory first step.
Only after undergoing Shatkarma,
practice of Asanasetcshould begin.
This is in order to purify the nadisin the body.
It is only after the body is pure and there is a
free flow of Pranawithin the nadisthat one
can practice the other aspects of yoga.
WHEN SHOULD WE PERFORM
SHATKARMA?

The six kinds of duties are: Dhauti, Basti, Neti,

These are called the six actions or purificatory
methods or Yogic detoxification methods.

fingers, using the fingers as a pincers to take hold of
the sutra.
The sutra is grasped between the first two fingers and
drawn out of the mouth, but still leaving some of the
sutra outside the nose.
Hold each end of the sutra and then gently floss back
and forth a few times.

opposite nostril.
SUTRA NETI

removing the dirt and bacteria trapped along
with the mucus in the nostrils.

nose, which can alleviate rhinitis, allergies and
some types of asthma.

of going to the other nostril. But it will not cause you
any harm.

opposite side.
JALA NETI PROCEDURE
