Introduction उत्सेधलिङ्गं श्वयथुं करोति । Ci. 12/8 ( Cakrapāņi ) Swelling or protuberance in any part of the body is called Śvayathu .

Nidana शुद्ध्यामयाभक्तकृशाबलानां क्षाराम्लतीक्ष्णोष्णगुरूपसेवा ।च।॥ ५॥ दध्याममृच्छाकविरोधिदुष्टगरोपसृष्टान्ननिषेवणं अर्शास्यचेष्टा न च देहशुद्धिर्मर्मोपघातो विषमा प्रसूतिः । मिथ्योपचारः प्रतिकर्मणां च निजस्य हेतुः श्वयथोः प्रदिष्टः ।। ६ ।।

People who have become thin and weak due to vomiting, catharsis etc. or due to any disease or not eating food, when they eat alkaline food, acidic food, sharp or hot or heavy food; If curd, uncooked grains, soil, vegetables, poisonous grains, contaminated grains and artificially poisoned grains are consumed, then all these cause inflammation in the body. Similarly, not doing any kind of physical labor, not purifying the body internally or externally (by bathing), getting hurt on the vital places, having abnormality in delivery , vomiting-purgation. If the changes or diseases are not treated properly, all these are said to be the causes of the inflammation.

Samprati बाह्याः सिराः प्राप्य यदा कफासृपित्तानि सन्दूषयतीह वायुः । तैर्बद्धमार्गः स तदा विसर्पन्नुत्सेधलिङ्गः श्वयथुं करोति ॥ ८॥

Poorvaroopa ऊष्मा तथा स्याद्दवथुः सिराणामायाम इत्येव च पूर्वरूपम् । Body warmth. Sensation of burning. Sensation of streching or pulling of the vessels.

Samanya lakshana सगौरवं स्यादनवस्थितत्वं सोत्सेधमुष्माऽथ सिरातनुत्वम् । सलोमहर्षाऽङ्गविवर्णता च सामान्यलिङ्गः श्वयथोः प्रदिष्टम् ।। ११ ।। Heaviness in the swollen area, swelling not always being the same i.e. sometimes less, sometimes more (higher), feeling hot, horripilation and discolouration in the limbs – These are common symptoms of inflammation.

Vataja shotha lakshana Swelling caused by vata is unstable and fluctuating. There is thinness, hardness, redness and blackness in the skin. Without any reason, there is numbness, tingling or pain in the inflamed area. When pressed, that spot gets suppressed, but when released, it rises again and this swelling increases during the day.

Kaphaja sotha lakshan Heaviness Whitish discoloration Salivataion Exessive sleeping Agni mandya It is suppressed and don’t raise again after removing pressure increase at night time.

Upadrav छर्दिः श्वासोऽरुचिस्तृष्णा ज्वरोऽतीसार एव च सप्तकोऽयं सदौर्बल्यः शोथोपद्रवसंग्रहः ।। Vaman . Shwasa Aruchi Trushna Atisar durbalata

Sadhya asadhyata The swelling which starts from the feet and spreads all over the body is Kṛchhārasadhyay for a man and the swelling which starts from the mouth of a woman and spreads all over the body is also Kṛchhrasādhyay . Inflammation that originates from the private part of a man or woman (anus, vagina or urethra) and spreads throughout the body is very painful and krchhrasadhya . With complications Sotha is krchhrasadhya .
