and is also a farmer’s prayer for good

•Saga dawais a festival for tourists and travellers
•Saga dawais said to be organized with lanterns, butter light lamps in line at the monasteries
of the mahayanabuddhists.

INTERNATIONAL FLOWER & GARDEN FESTIVAL:
Sikkim’s rich flora is what blossoms from march to may, which shows us 560 kinds of
orchids and about a hundred and fifty types of gladioli. I request that a tour be taken
and you’ll have a wonderful view with 240 trees as in any kind but to a beautiful live
vibe color effect to leave a person completely surprised. But the most obscure yet
exceptional plant species to get the best clicks are the 44 types ofrhododendrons
that sure to leave an impression.

MANGAN MUSIC FESTIVAL:
The manganmusic festival is held in december. It is attended by all indiansand
foreign tourists. Plus enlivens the ambience and uplifts the mood and
represents the cultural heritage of the state of sikkim.

DRUPKA TESHI FESTIVAL:
Drukpa teshicelebration is commended by the buddhists. Drukpa teshitalks on the
main noble truths -torment, karma & delusion, nirvana and eight-fold path. The
biggest buddhists! Tibetiansand nepalis! They attend this Festival at the petitions at
the deer park in north sikkimalong with a yak race. Celebration involves lectures and
stories.

BUMCHU FESTIVAL:
Sikkim bumchufestival began between the common era and under the dharma
king, who played a role in his entrance into buddhism. The king’s life! Is a vital
part of the monks at the tashidingmonastery in sikkim. This part of the festival
turns out to be a life changing experience.

FAMOUS FOR
•Sikkimeseare known for their traditional sport of archery which is played especially after
the harvest
•This is one of the ancient sports practiced by the people rejuvenating the cultural identity
of the region.
•The players cannot play the sport wearing normal dresses but they will have to dress up
with their traditional attire named kho.
•During the sport the opponents in order to confuse the player, wreak verbal abuse on
them.
•This is considered more often as a fun.
•In some villages, a ritual of burying the effigies of the opponents is also practiced as that
is believed as an inflictor of bad luck to the opponent.

COSTUMES (MEN)
•The men belonging to the Lepchacommunity wear a white pajama,
stretching to the calves and this is called as Thokro-Dum. The men wear a
shirt and a cap commonly known as Yenthatseand Shamborespectively.
•The costume of Bhutia men is similar to that of the Lepchawhich is known
as Bakhuwhich is like a long robe and tied to the neck on one side and with
a silk or a cotton belt at the waist. On top of all this they prefer a waist coat,
JyaJya.
•Nepalese men dress themselves in Shurval, a ChuridarPajama, topped off by
a shirt, known as Daura.

COSTUMES (WOMEN)
•The women of Lepchacommunity drape themselves with a smooth and cozy dress
which is quite long and goes up to the ankle. The blouse worn by them is very loose
and is known as Tago. Apart from this they wear a belt and a cap and adorn
themselves with earrings, called Namchok, Lyaka necklace, Gyarand a bracelet.
•The costume of the Bhutia women is more or less similar to that of the Lepcha's.
•The women belonging to the Nepali community adorn themselves with vibrant
coloursespecially the saris. The blouse is loose and is fastened from four sides and
hence is called ChaubandiCholo.Theupper portion of the body is daintily
enveloped with a piece of cloth with wonderful prints. It is called Hembari.
•The married women of this community apart from their regular costume wear a
stripy apron known as Pangden.Theyare quite crazy about gold ornaments.

CUISINE
•The food of the people of Sikkim reflects the culture of the state which is a
blend of Nepal, India, Bhutan and Tibet.
•Rice is the staple food of the people of the state. Meat and dairy products also
form a part of their daily meal
•The cuisine of the Sikkimesemainly comprises of Dals (lentils), fresh
vegetables, bamboo shoots, wild flowers, mushrooms and nettle leaves.
•They prefer non-vegetarian food like beef, pork and fish. Alcohol is very
common among the people of Sikkim.
•Some of the common dishes preferred by the people are Momosor steamed
dumpling, Tomato AcharPickle, Noodle soup, Fermented soybean, Fermented
vegetable soup, Traditional cottage cheese, Chhurpi-NingroCurry, Fermented
rice product, String bean pickle, Mutton curry and Fermented bamboo shoot.

OCCUPATION
•Agriculture is the major occupation of the
people of Sikkim.
•They grow cardamom, ginger and tea. Apart
from this the other principal crops grown
here include Mandarin orange, guava,
mango, banana and turmeric.
•Tourism also forms the backbone of
the Sikkim economy.
