Shopping mall has become part of a way of life . The place is a destination frequented by many
levels and age groups of people during leisure time and weekends. The intentions of going to the
mall now are no longer confined to shopping for necessities in terms of foods and clothes but
have expanded to the act of seeking for leisure satisfaction. The reason being that leisure in form of

In the early 1960 s and 1970 s, shopping mall had gained popularity as a tool to revitalize derelict
and abandoned areas within urban core. Shopping mall was built to rejuvenate downtown main
street or a once popular traditional shopping street. In the later period of twentieth century, there
was a lifestyle shift whereby customers were increasingly demanding and knowledgeable and
expected better shopping environment with better service and interaction. Shopping mall was
expected to be accommodating for their needs of basic necessities as well as leisure. In the 1990 s,
the idea of urban entertainment center which combined shopping and entertainment had become
very popular and adapted worldwide. The thematic shopping mall began to exist sporadically
providing new form of shopping and promising satisfying experience to the consumer. The mall was
another kind of what was called Design Storytelling which derived from the outgrowth of the
relationship between entertainment media and retailing and the results was depicted through very
lively environment created from the design fusion of forms, colors and sounds that would dazzle
the senses. The interior treatment was meant to create conducive shopping environment with good
ambience and would effectively engage shoppers senses.
