Simple Past Uses and Rules

1. Simple past We use simple past to talk about your routine in the past ; it is also used  to refer to actions that were completed in a time period before the present time. In the  Simple Past  the process of performing the action is not important. What matters is that the action was completed in the  past . 

2. Affirmative form Subject + verb in the past form + complement I played soccer yesterday I ate dinner in my job I took a shower I danced all night

3. Subject + did not ( didn’t ) + verb + complement I didn’t go to school She didn’t work yesterday We didn’t live in New York Negative form REMEMBER: when the auxiliary is in the setence the verb will not change . In this case the auxiliary is “ Did ’

4. Did + subject + verb + complement ? Did she pass on the exam ? Did you study english ? Did he go to the doctor yesterday ? Interrogative form REMEMBER: when the auxiliary is in the setence the verb will not change . In this case the auxiliary is “ Did ’
