About This Presentation

Sinus arrhythmia is a normal physiological phenomenon, most commnonly seen in young, healthy people. The heart rate varies due to reflex changes in vagal tone during the different stages of the respiratory cycle. Inspiration increases the heart rate by decreasing vagal tone

Sinus arrhythmia

Define Sinus arrhythmia means there is an irregularity in the heart rhythm, originating at the sinus node

Types Sinus tachycardia:100+ Sinus bradycardia:60-

Respiratory sinus arrhythmia Benign When the person breathes in, their heart rate increases, and when they breathe out, the rate decreases. More common in children than adults and tends to disappear, as they get older. The P-P interval will often be longer than 0.16 seconds when the person breathes out During exercise, for example, the heart rate rhythm tends to become more regular

Diagnosis

Significance Occur to increase efficiency or allow the heart to do less work while maintaining the correct levels of blood gases=natural hysteresis

Treatment Improves with age
