Nowadays, public awareness of environmental issues is
increasing along with the harmful impact caused by the use of
single-use plastics. Plastic, especially plastic straws, has
become a symbol of the pollution crisis that affects various
aspects of life. Plastic straws are often considered small, but
their role in environmental pollution is significant. Plastic straws
not only contribute to the accumulation of plastic waste, but
also have serious risks to the environmental ecosystem. This
issue highlights the urgent need to find more environmentally
friendly alternatives. An innovative solution to reduce this
problem is by using straws made from edible film.

Introduction
The advantages of edible film are
environmentally friendly, practical, and efficient,
because it can be consumed and decomposed
after use. This report discusses the process of
making straws from edible film in a
comprehensively to provide new insights into its
potential as a replacement solution for single-use
plastic straws solution. The aim is to support
global efforts to reduce the use of plastic zero
waste movement and protect the ecosystem
from further environmental pollution.

Measurements of ingredients such as nata de coco, CMC (Carboxymethyl Cellulose), tapioca flour,
vegetable glycerin, and water were weighed with a digital scale.
Put the dough into a pot to be heated until it becomes clear and thick,
After reaching the desired consistency desired consistency, pour the batter into into a silicone or
aluminum mold that has been greased with oil

Make sure that the edible film mixture poured very thin so that can produce a good edible film
good.
The edible film is then dried using an oven with a temperature of 100°C for 2 hours.
After drying, shape the edible film using chopsticks to form a straw.

Durability

Sippity was dipped into water and various other beverages, after a
while the it did not become brittle and did not dissolve easily,
which proves that the edible film material for Sippity has good
durability and remains stable despite being immersed in various
liquids for a period of time. In addition, Sippity also has a slightly
higher thickness than conventional straws. For the flexibility test,
Sippity did not break immediately when bent which shows that
Sippity has flexibility and adds more value to its practicality.

Sippity is dipped into water or any other type of beverage, while
using Sippity there is no change in taste which shows that the
natural ingredients used in making Sippity do not have a negative
impact on the taste so that the drink still tastes like the original
without any contamination of the taste of Sippity. Sippity also does
not change the color of the beverage which indicates that the
ingredients used have good color stability when dipped in drinks or
liquids, this proves that the color of Sippity will not make the visual
appearance of the beverage maintained.

.
Inorganic waste, especially non-disposable straws, are widely used in the food
industry, be it small or large companies. If not treated properly, they can damage the
environment and ecosystem. Therefore, this research focuses on making an
environmentally friendly straw called Sippity. Sippity is an eco-friendly straw made
from edible film. It can be an innovative and environmentally friendly solution for
reducing inorganic waste as it is safe for consumption, decomposes quickly without
leaving harmful residues, and has the potential to be widely applied in the food and
beverage industry. Sippity also contributes greatly to global efforts to address the
global warming crisis, plastic pollution, and supports the zero waste movement.

Development of the use of natural
tapioca flour that can be changed with
other flour
Adjustment of the ratio between
ingredients, such as the ratio of water
quantity to the quantity of tapioca
flour, nata de coco, vegetable
glycerin, and CMC.
Further research needs to be
conducted in order to try the use
of various additional ingredients
that can add and strengthen the
aroma and flavor of this
environmentally friendly straw. For
example, by adding vanilla,
cinnamon, or other natural
ingredients.
