Vata Predominant Individual’s Skin : V ata dosha is predominantly made of ether & air; dryness is a predominant character as well. research shows that 92% of the vata dosha individuals have dehydrated dry skin. some main characteristics are: rough facial skin dehydrated dry thin skin delicate but rough thin skin dark, matte, dull complexion cool to touch, palms and soles always cold, less sweating is observed. tendency to develop cracks easily can tolerate heat/sun but cannot tolerate dry, cold, windy weather eye lashes are dry, thin scanty, cheeks appear sunken and dry prone to dryness, early wrinkling, cracked skin and cracked feet. skin appears healthier in wet hot weather. vata skin care regimen: as we have seen, vata skin is dehydrated and dry. so one of the most important regimens is to provide nourishment, hydration and moisturization to the skin. some of the simple self-care ideas are:- massage – slightly warm oil massage sesame oil enhanced with ashwagandha , bala shatavari . sun bath good for vata or slightly swedan . udavartan – with milk, warm water, rose water oil but do it gently. sesame oil , milk castor oil  

Nourish the body internally and externally with milk, ghee, coconut oil, essential oils and sweet juicy fruits. Whole grains, green leafy vegetables not only provide nourishment but also cleanse the system. Consume lots of Luke warm water to hydrate and cleanse the system. Regular massage with warm oils like coconut or sesame oil or with medicated Ayurvedic oils keeps the skin wrinkle free and smooth. Face pack o fresh fruits like papaya, berries, along with rose petals, butter can be used at least once a week.   Pitta Predominant Individual’s Skin: Pitta dosha is mainly made up of fire . Excessive heat and excessive sweating are some predominant characters. Research shows that 70% of the pitta prakriti individuals have dehydrated skin. Some main characteristics are: Delicate, fair facial skin , Skin appears slightly oily because of moderate level of moisturisation Skin is of medium thickness, soft texture and delicate appearance. Skin color is generally fair–soft, lustrous pink/red. Skin appears smooth with a glowing complexion. Skin always feels warm, palms and soles are also hot to touch. Photosentivity , heat intolerance is common. Skin appears healthier in cool weather. Eye lashes are thin, scanty and cheeks appear flat and smooth. Excessive, sweating and perspiration is common. Tendency to have a lot of moles, eruptions and freckles is common. It is prone to discoloration, inflammations, rashes, burning sensation , premature wrinkling, blackheads and whiteheads.

Pitta Skin Care Regimen : Pitta skin type individuals generally have a very sensitive especially to heat/sun and is prone to easy sunburns acne and inflammations. So it is very necessary to provide coolness to the body and proper hydration as well. Some simple tips for self care are: Massage – coconut oil enhanced with bhringaraja bramhi chandana . If preferable use swedana . Udarvartan – aromatic herbal powder ( ushira , chandana , koshtha , jatamansi , mushtaka , padmakashtha etc.it removes oil ( as pitta is ushna do it once a week ). Barley rice flour aloevera lemon If exposed to sun/heat, make sure to apply appropriate sunscreens or aloe vera cream. Drink lots of fluids-water, fresh fruit juices, lemon water and son on to keep the body cool and hydrated. Regular light massage with cooling Ayurvedic oils and immersion in rose petal infused water or oil with sandal wood oil helps cool and rejuvenate the skin. Hot spicy deep fried foods have to be avoided and lots of sweet, juicy fruits, rose infused milk and cooling vegetables have to consumed. Avoid harsh cosmetics. Use natural face pack with cucumber mint, rose petal, sandalwood powder and mung bean powder at least once a week. The pack can be mixed with cold milk Amalki , coriander , jasmine,manjishtha ,sandalwood , base oil- coconut rice bran

  Kapha Prakriti Individual’s Skin : Kapha dosha is predominantly made of water & Earth. Oiliness is one of the main characters of kapha prakriti person. Research says only 48% have dehydrated skin. Some of the noticeable characteristics are: Delicate pleasing facial skin Excessively moisturized, oily, greasy appearance. Soft, plump texture, thick skin with luster & smooth unctuous complexion. Skin seems wet or cold all the time.. Normal to moderate perspiration is observed Skin is tolerant to sun but intolerant to wet weather. Eye lashes are long and oily and cheeks appear plump. Skin is prone to itching and excessive oiliness Due to excessive oiliness, it is easily prone to acne, eczema, infections etc but remains wrinkle free for long.

Kapha Skin Care Regimen: Kapha prakriti individual’s skin will always a tendency to accumulate water, toxins and fat because of its thickness and oiliness. Regular internal and external cleansing is of utmost importance. Some self care tips are: Massage – mustard oil ( enhanced with nimbi lodhra , jatiphala . Swedan – sun bath Udwartan – dry powder vacha , mushtaka , triphala . Warm water bath it gives pleasant feeling , relieves strain stress. Corn, millet flour almond Regular scrubbing of the skin with mung bean powder or gram flour or Ayurvedic body scrub powder reduces oiliness and cleanses the skin. Exercise regularly to burn the accumulated fat as well as to open the blocked skin pores. Avoid sweet, deep fried foods and include lots of warm water, plenty of fibrous vegetables & fruits which help cleanse the system. Spices like ginger, cinnamon, black pepper should be used regularly. Regular hot oil massage, powder massage or scrubs & hot water baths are a must for increased circulation in the body. Face packs with Fuller’s Earth/Multani Mitti , gram flour, honey, lemon juices and papaya at least once a week with help remove the toxins and cleanse the skin.

Herbs- ashwangandha bibitaki fenugreek,haritaki , neem , vitamin a oils Face care - morning face wash with cold water . For toning cleansing triphala powder 2 pinches water apply thin layer after 5 minutes wash with cold water. Yashtimadhu I pinch with water apply face becomes soft smooth.

Special care – Cleansing – due to dust fumes, dirt smoke pollution. . Base can be chosen as per dosha milk for pitta, honey for kapha, sesame for vata. 1. Normal – prefer – amalaki , bhibhitaka , haritaki , haridra , arjuna, vacha , lodhra , kushtha , methika . 2 nd choice- manjishtha , durva , ushira,nimbuka,nimbi,chandana , 2. oily- prefer - chandan , ushira , durva,nimbuka,nimbi , jatamansi,haritaki , amalaki , durva 2 nd choice- daruharidra , dhanyaka , lodhra,manjishtha,arjuna,bibhitaka 3.dry- prefer- dhanyaka , methika , mushtha,jatiphala,jatamansi , kumara 2 nd choice- amalaki,kushtha,sariva,bhrungaraja,kunkama,vacha .

Facial oil 1.Vata- plane oil preferable. For vata sesame oil ( sandalwood, rose, jasmine ), for pitta coconut LEMON, for kapha mustard oil, lavender , jasmine .wrinkles- rose , fennel, lavender c. scrubs – normal skin- base moong ( triphala , kushtha , vacha , lodhra ) oily- base- chanak – triphala , chandan , nimbi, ushira dry- base- lentil ( massor ) Face packs- mukha lepa – doshaghna ( dosha elevating) - vishaghna (detoxifying), varnya ( complexion) 1 .
