Complex of Sultan al- Zahir Barquq U.S.V Dr/ H assan Refaat

It was built by Sultan Barquq , the first ruler of Egypt from the Circassian Mamluks The construction of the Sultan Barquq Mosque dates back to the year 1286 AD it is considered the first mosque built during the era of the Circassian Mamluk state, He ruled the country in 1382 AD, according to the book History of Islamic Architecture

It is located on Al- Mu’izz Lidin Allah Al- Fatimi Street, and this facility is considered the first architectural facility in the Circassian Mamluk state Location

A minaret consisting of three floors covered with marble in its second round . The first floor based on a square base . The second floor surrounded by a balcony. The third floor consists of a colonnade of eight columns.The minaret is crowned with helmet shape that end with a copper crescent

The qibla iwan divided into 3 parts the middle part was covered with a flat roof decorated with gilded inscriptions It was separated from the two side parts by two rows of huge columns. The walls of this iwan were covered with colored marble. The original wooden minbar of the mosque was lost and was replaced by the current minbar , which was ordered by Sultan Abu Saeed Jaqmaq in the middle of the ninth century AH The mihrab of fine marble inlaid with mother-of-pearl lobes in the middle

It consists of an open courtyard and 4 iwans , the largest iwan is the qibla iwan , and in the middle of courtyard is fountain .The fountain used for ablution or to cool the air.

As for the main facade overlooking the street, it is high and built of stone. Its front end begins with the public door covered with colored marble in an artistic manner borrowed from the Aslam Al- Silhdar Mosque. Two shutters covered in hollow copper with delicate engravings and embossed with silver were installed on the main door. They are the closest similarity to the two shutters of the Sultan Hassan Madrasa that are currently located in the Al- Muayyad Sheikh Mosque. In the middle of the entrance façade is a large arch surrounded by two curtains

The mausoleum is located underneath one of the four iwans to the north side of the prayer hall. It is found directly after a decorative passage that leads into the mausoleum. The dome above the mausoleum has wooden pendentives that are painted with magnificent decorations. The windows of the mausoleum are of shiny colorful glass that radiates the sun light all day long.

During the nineteenth century, the Arabic Antiquities Preservation Committee meritorious work in renovating buildings Architecture Group, overhauled its marbles and its carpentry and right buildings repaired roofs wezehbtha , the big dome also created years 1311 e/1893 m according to an old picture and kept the old colored decorations and gilt. The geometry of the mausoleum The next part explores the most significant sound diffusion and amplifying elements. This had been prominently introduced to historic religious architecture which forms the acoustics identity of the Mausoleum, i.e. the dome, the Mihrab and the muqarnas .
