SLUMP TEST ASTM C-143 Presented by Muhammad Bilal UET peshawar
What is slump test? This test is used to check the consistency (fluidity) of concrete in a batch The slump test measure the workability of the concrete or the ability of concrete to flow, workability related to the type of construction, placing and finishing methods
Apparatus used in this test Slump cone Dimensions are ( upper dia 4inch lower 8inch height 12”) Tamping rod
Procedure for slump test First mix all the ingredients to form a concrete mix Now sample of concrete is placed in slump cone in three layers each layer is tamped 25 times so it can set well Now slump is removed and the concrete is allowed to subside The distance by which concrete falls is called slump This test is very popular due to simplicity
Different types of slump True slump ( slump 1-2 inches)
Types Cont.. Collapse slump (slump greater than 4 inches)
Types Cont.. Shear slump (slump 2-4 inches)
Tamping procedure
slump and workability Slump between 1 to 2 (25mm-50mm) inches means that the concrete mix has low workability Slump between 2 to 4 inches indicates medium workability Slump greater than 4 inches indicates higher workability
