2. What is SMAC? SMAC stands for Social , Mobile , Analytics , cloud . SMAC creates an ecosystem that allows a business to improve its operations and get closer to the customer with minimal overhead and maximum reach. The proliferation of structured and unstructured data that is being created by mobile devices, sensors, social media and website browsing is creating new business models built upon customer-generated data.

3. None of the four technologies can be an afterthought because it's the synergy created by social, mobile, analytics and cloud working together that creates a   competitive advantage. Social media has provided businesses with new ways to reach and interact with customers, while Mobile technologies have changed the way people communicate, shop and work.  Analytics allow businesses to understand how, when and where people consume certain goods and services and cloud computing provides a new way to access technology and the data a business needs to quickly respond to changing markets and solve business problems.

4. While each of the four technologies can impact a business individually, their convergence is proving to be a  disruptive force that is creating entirely new  business models  for service providers.

5. Latest emerging trends in SMAC: Just a quick glance around our tablet-and- smartphone immersed world will confirm the ubiquity of mobile technology. The statistics below show how integral mobile has become to daily life, as well as a driving force in our economy. 1. By 2017, the mobile app market is expected to generate revenues of  $77 billion 2. Worldwide, there were  1.2 billion   smartphone shipments in 2014 3. Smartphones make up  63.1%  of the global mobile market. Businesses are taking note, and making major investments in the future of technology. The four most impactful, emerging trends are Social, Mobile, Analytics, and Cloud, or SMAC. Spurred on by powerful evidence and an always-increasing user base, it’s no wonder adopting and improving SMAC has become a top priority for businesses.

6. SOCIAL Known for being “…the easiest to understand and perhaps the hardest to manage and control,” social media is changing the way businesses market and present their brands and brand messaging, and how consumers interact with that messaging. MOBILE Mobile means more “…than a smartphone connected to the web. It involves data mobility and the idea of safe and secure data transfer any time, any place, on any device.” ANALYTICS “This torrent of new data offers an opportunity to gain unprecedented insight and to quickly test new ideas…it also provides the power to fundamentally change business operations.” CLOUD With so many different kinds of cloud computing, such as public, private and hybrid, delivering platform, infrastructure and SaaS , to name a few, cloud is generally the least understood of the four.

7. In which area innovation is needed? Every application and every human being is, or will be touched by, at-least one technology of SMAC stack. Business leaders need to be cautious of advancement in this stack and should not miss the bandwagon, as this technology stack in coming years will transform the way they run their businesses. So, this stack has high potential to disrupt their IT landscape. They should carefully evaluate and analyze the impact from each of these technologies on their software applications and adopt accordingly. However, there is no immediate adoption need to act in haste, but a careful impact analysis is required. Especially for enterprise applications, the impact of this entire stack is not high - only Cloud and Analytics will have some impact.
