ABSTRACT This study introduces an AI-powered automated medicine dispenser for enhancing medication adherence among patients and the elderly. Using Node MCU8266 and WiFi connectivity, the device sets medication schedules via a website. At scheduled times, notifications are sent to users, prompting medication intake. Sensors detect user interaction, triggering medication dispensing. In cases of uncollected medication, reminders are issued. This innovative solution offers a convenient and effective approach to medication management and patient care.
INTRODUCTION: Studies show that many people irrespective of age become forgetful when it comes to consuming medicines. This, seen mostly in the elderly, leads to many other life risks. This is where medicine dispensers come into play. There are different types of dispensers all of which are just implemented using solid medicines. Most of them are jut simple with no reminders etc. This paper proposes a dispenser that can dispense both solid medicine, has an app integrated with it and helps to set alarms

Problem Definition: Develop an automated medicine dispenser to assist patients and elderly individuals in adhering to their medication schedule. Methodology for Automated Medicine Dispenser: 1. Design and Assembly: Create physical structure with compartments, motors, sensors, and NodeMCU8266. 2. Programming and Wi-Fi Connection: Develop firmware for NodeMCU8266 to control dispenser and connect to Wi-Fi. 3. Setting Time Schedule: Users input schedule on website, data communicated to NodeMCU8266. 4. Automated Dispensing: NodeMCU8266 activates dispensing mechanism based on schedule, synchronized with internet time. 5. Notification System: Visual and auditory notifications sent to user when it's time to take medication. 6. User Interaction Detection: Sensors detect user interaction, triggering dispensing mechanism. 7. Dispensing Process: Motorized mechanism dispenses medication from compartment, using crank mechanism to open/close door. 8. Monitoring and Reminder: NodeMCU8266 monitors dispensing process, activates reminders if medication remains. 9. Notification for Unattended Medication: If medication not collected, user receives notification to collect it. 10. Testing and Optimization: Thorough testing to ensure functionality and reliability, optimize based on results.
Results and Discussion: The AI-powered medicine dispenser effectively improved medication adherence by scheduling doses and issuing timely reminders via WiFi connectivity. The sensor-based mechanism ensured accurate dispensing upon user interaction. Moreover, the system issued reminders for uncollected medication, enhancing user compliance and treatment outcomes. Overall, the device presents a promising solution for medication management, offering convenience and reliability for patients and caregivers alike.
CONCLUSION: with the use of the device, the medication adherence will definitely improve, especially in elderly patients and patients with chronic and period medicine. the user’s interface which is the same on all operating systems and devices is clear, user-friendly, intuitive and easy to use, even for the elderly patients. also the device is cost effective and easy in use.
