In several countries, the consumer charges the value equivalent to the kilowatt-hours that he wishes to buy for use.
4 Introduction The present system of energy metering as well as billing in India uses electromechanical and somewhere digital energy meter. It consumes more time and labour. One of the prime reasons is the traditional billing system which is inaccurate. Many times slow, costly, and lack in flexibility as well as reliability. Today accuracy in electricity billing is highly recommended. The smart energy meter gives real power consumption as well as accurate billing. It provides real time monitoring of electricity uses It is less time consuming and cost effective.

9 SMART METERS Smart meter measuring the electricity and remotely control the supply and cut off when necessary it was called automated meter reading(AMR).AMR is a one way communication and upgrade into two way communication “AMI” technology. “AMR” is older technology only collects data from electrical meter to the utility. but “AMI” is collects the data meter and consumer both.
