Hope is used to talk about something
that we want in the past, present or future.
The most important thing, it is possible to be
true or happen.
Examples :

night. (in the past)
I haven’t looked outside yet. I hope it’s not
raining. (present)
I hope you have a great day. (Future)

without your mother. (present)

2. WISH
Whereas wish which has the meaning
of desire is used to talk about the situation
we want, but it is impossible to be true or it
is the opposite of the reality and becomes
the regret.
There are several ways to use wish:
1. We can use wish + past tense:
to talk about our current situation. The
important note is that, although we use
simple past tense, we are not talking about
the past.
Examples:
I wish I had 3 houses.
(In fact: I don’t have 3 houses now, but I
want 3 houses).
I wish I could play the guitar.
(In fact, I can’t play the guitar, but I want to).
2. Wish + past perfect tense.
to talk about the regrets we have from the
past.
Examples:
I wish I hadn’t gone to the party.
(In fact, I went to the party, and now I regret
it).
I wish I had eaten the spicy food.
(In fact, I didn’t eat spicy food).
3. Wish + would + verb.
Used to talk about situations that often occur in our
lives that we don't like.
Examples:
•I wish my husband would come back from
America.
(In fact, my husband never come back from
America, and I don’t like it).
•I wish my children wouldn’t play their music so
loudly.
(In reality, my children play their music very loudly,
and I don’t like it).
4. Wish + noun.
Used to talk about things that we want for other people.
Examples:
•We wish you a merry Christmas.
(The meaning is: We hope you have a merry Christmas).
Artinya : Kami harap kamu mengalami Natal yang
menyenangkan.
•Wish me luck on my wedding.
(The meaning is: Please hope that I have good luck on my
wedding).
Artinya : Berharap bahwa saya beruntung pada acara
pernikahan saya.
5. Wish + the infinitive form of a verb.
In this case, the meaning of wish has the same meaning as
want but it is more formal.
Examples:
•I wish to see your boss right away.
(Aku ingin bertemu bos kamu segera).
•We don’t have a class available right now. Do
you wish to wait?
(Kami tidak memiliki kelas yang tersedia sekarang.
Apakah kamu ingin menunggu?)
