status of women

Literature review
NREGS is a scheme under the act NREGA2005 for providing
100 days guaranteed wage employment for all employment
seekers above 18 years of age and willing to do work.

In the year 2009 the central government allocated RS.
30,100 crore for NREGA. In 2009-10 employment of 24.56
lakhs person day covering 2.41293 lakhs house hold already
generated in Kerala.
Workforce participation of marginalized groups has been
high with 57% (SC/ST) in 2007-08 and 55% up to mid-
August 2008.

Women participation increased to 49% to 85%
As per statistics with the Ministry, women
constituted 85.05 per cent of the total 3,16,287
households which were provided jobs under the
Rural Employment Guarantee Act since 2008.
The population of Palluruthy block panchayath
(Kumbalangi and Chellanam block panchayath)
mainly depends on the fishing which is a seasonal
employment
