SOCIAL DEVELOPMENT THEORY Social development is the process by which children and individuals learn what behaviors are acceptable to society, and what they can and cannot do based on their abilities. The prominent figures in the field of social development are Lev Vygotsky , Erik Erikson , and Bandura.

SOCIOCULTURAL OF LEV VYGOTSKY Emphasizes the role of social interaction and culture in cognitive development. He believed that social learning precedes development and that children learn through guided interaction with more knowledgeable others (parents, teachers, etc.). Key Concept : Zone of Proximal Development (ZPD)

ERIK ERIKSON’S PSYCHOSOCIAL STAGES Erikson proposed that social development occurs in eight stages throughout life, each with a psychosocial crisis that must be resolved (e.g., trust vs. mistrust, identity vs. role confusion). Successful resolution leads to healthy social development.
