SOCIAL LITERACY Social literacy means the presence of social skills, knowledge, and positive human values that support ability in human being to act positively.
Social literacy is a students successful performance and understanding of social skills, organizational skills, and communication skills. It is the ability to connect effectively with those around them.
How social literacy can be taught? Students/children can learn literacy through social interaction between themselves and children and/or adults in/or outside school Adults can learn through field trip, peer gathering, communication to develop the social literacy practices.
Improving social skills Maintaining eye contact Understanding angry feelings Handling confrontation Collaborating ideas Discussion Ability to meet new people
Social literacy skills Effective communication- ability to communicate effectively and share thoughts and ideas with students through group conversation, discussion, etc. Conflict resolution- ability to get to the sour5ce of the problem and find a workable solution by weighting both side from those involved with the goal of mediating for reconciliation. Active listening- ability to pay close attention to a student in times of counseling, introspection and consultation.
Social literacy skills Empathy- ability to understand and identify the feelings of students in times of difficulty and trouble. Relation management- it is the ability to maintain relationships and build key connections with school stakeholders for the students development. Respect- can be done by knowing when to initiate communication and respond during interaction or even in times of heated arguments and confrontations.

These can be attained through: Gaining ideas, information techniques and perspectives from people with different areas of expertise. Providing their own perspective for a benefit to others Accomplishing tasks and working together toward shared goal Providing mutual support for difficult situation Expanding network to learn about and pursue new opportunities Gaining feedback and referral fom people who can personally attest to work, skills and qualities Making the school truly a healthy and conducive learning environment.
Importance of social literacy It improves student positive behavior and reduce negative behavior. It can help children to interact and communicate effectively during class activity Can effectively preventing a variety of problems such as alcohol and drug use, violence, and bullying. Social skills learning promotes students academic success, health, and overall well-being.
