Introduction and definition Socialization is that process by which a living organism is changed into a person or a social being. It is a continuous and lifelong process in our life. An individual lives and grows in society and society moulds its personality, behavior, etc. Definitions A ccording to Green, 'socialization is that process through which a man develops into social being. According to Burger, 'socialization is a process by which child learns to be participant member of a society.

Features of socialisation process Features of Socialization Socialization is a lifelong and continuous process: It is a continuous process. It starts with our birth and continues even after our death to the future generations. Socialization helps to control human behavior: It control our behavior through numerous ways. The norms and customs of our culture and society helps to control human behavior. Socialization is done through both formal and informal agen cies : It is done through both formal and informal agencies. Formal agencies like school and college have fix rules and regula-tions . They do socialization through education and instructions.Informal agencies like friends and family do not have fix rules and regulations. They help in socialization through customs and cultural values. A Socialization provide basic discipline in an individual:Through socialization individual learn about the various norms of society and learn about what is acceptable and what is not, so he learns how to control the discipline and behavior to gain social approval.

Types Types of Socialization A Primary socialization: Its between the individual and those people in their life with whom they have primary relationships like family, friends, etc. An individual forms first primary relationship with his parents and his process of socialization started first with the family. S econdary socialization: Its between the individual and those people in their life with whom they have secondary relationships like school, college, office, etc. There are fixed rules and regulations. The individual learn a lot from secondary agencies of socialization throu g h education , experience, etc. Anticipatory socialization :- An individual assumes to be member, e.g. a child various roles like of father or doctor in school play, then he l some of the behavior required in the role and knows how to part of it. Anticipatory socialization makes a person's adjust to change in status easier. 4 Adult socialization: The aim of adult socialization is to changes in the views of the individual and learning the phase of life. It focus on learning technical rules, ways of carrying etc. It is designed to help a person to gain specific skills.• Resocialization : It is the process of discarding the former behaviour nd accepting new one. Resocialization occurs through the human life cycle. It denotes the more basic and rapid cha e.g. brainwashing, rehabilitation of criminals.

Agencies Formal agencies: These agencies have fix rules and regulations.Some examples of formal agencies are:• Educational institutions Occupational institutions Law The state The mass media Informal agencies: These agencies do not have any fixed rules and regulations: Family Play group Peer group Customs Religions Rituals
