The purpose of applying Sociometry To learn the interaction and the structure of a group To discover where exactly an individual exists in that group To elicit social relationship and the organization type of a group through analyzing attitudes and aptitudes of a group members among each other To identify subgroups, leaders and cliques of a group To obtain objective information about the real structure of a group and group integrity.
Important functions of Sociometry It enables to learn about the group dynamics and evaluate socialization levels of students after some social activities and their effects on reaching the intended goal. It helps to analyze the individual person in a whole group, this techniques gives as extensive amount of information about a lot of people at the same time. Helps to identify the distance/ closeness of the group members with each other and the interaction among them. Beneficial in preventing adaptation problems after having the application results in the hand.

Crucial points to be cared in the application of sociometry Good and clear explanation should be made to express the aim of the techniques before the application. Friendly and attentive atmosphere should be created Members should have known each other for a particular period for the valid and reliable results. Applications should be repeated periodically to see if there is any improvement or change Results have to be kept secret and not to use for other purposes.

Content of sociogram Circles with names inside: big or small, representing the different members of a family based on the importance they have in family. Lines between the circles: solid or dashed lines representing the strong or wear links between family members, can be of different color if link is negative. Arrows pointing one or both ways: showing whether relationship is reciprocal or only one-way where one person is providing and other person is not allowed/able to give back. Mother Sister
