2. Meaning: The term Sociology was coined by Auguste Comte, a French philosopher, in 1839. • The word Sociology is derived from the Latin word ‘societies’ meaning ‘society’ and the Greek word ‘logos’ are meaning ‘study or science’. 

3. Definitions: ‘Sociology is the science of society or of social phenomena -L.F. Ward Emile Durkheim defines, “ Sociology as a science of social institutions”. Ogburn and Nimkoff defines, "sociology is the study of social lif ”.

5. Sociology makes a Scientific of Society. The study of Sociology is indispensable for understanding and planning of society. Sociology is of great importance in the solution of social problems.

6. Without sociological knowledge a nurse cannot understand the community. As well as a nurse should understand the social position, status and social responsibility With regard to health field by studying sociology. Social correlates of disease including demographic factors can be understood by the nurse with the knowledge of Sociology.
