SOOT BLOWERS PRESENTED BY :- SHANKU BANERJEE

Brief Working Experience / Responsibilities taken : Worked in BOILER ( 1 WEEK) AND BOP AREA. Learning : Operational skills and managing skills Training Attended : Safety training ,Fire Fighting Overall Observations : Understanding own responsibility while working as a team, ensures smooth functioning of system

SOOT DEPOSIT Whenever fossil fuels are burnt they leave combustion residue broadly known as ash. As the flue gas moves over the heat transfer are of the boiler furnace,it brings along with it a major portion of this ash. As the gas moves over the heat transfer areas of the boiler, the ash deposits on the heating surfaces. This is known as soot deposit

TYPES OF DEPOSIT The soot deposits are broadly classified as Fused slag deposits (furnace walls) High Temperature bonded deposit(convective super heaters and re-heaters. Low Temperature deposits.( economiser & air heaters)

EFFECT OF SOOT DEPOSITS As the deposits are poor conductor of heat, there will be reduction in heat transfer ultimately resulting in increase of the flue gas temperature leaving the boiler and hence reducing boiler efficiency Deposit accumulation block flue gas path thereby increasing draught losses and so high ID fan power. Accumulation of deposit on tubes may fall of sections due to increased weight The deposits bonded to the tubes also lead to corrosion.

Type of soot blowers used in SASAN UMPP 6 X 660 MW Types of soot blowers: Wall Blowers also known as IRs ( Insertable Rotating ) Long Retractable Soot Blower (LRSB) or IK ( Insertable Kinetic) Air Heater Blower.

Wall soot blowers( Insertable Rotating) Wall Blower is a soot blower suitable for the cleaning of wall heating surfaces with heavy slagging and high flue gas temperatures up to 1600 °C.

LONG RETRACTABLE SOOT BLOWER ( Insertable Kinetic & IKEL)  Long retractable soot blowers such as the ones shown here are found throughout boiler super heater and re-heater sections. Helical soot blower

Boiler soot blowing procedure:- Open the isolation valve of soot blowing steam line. Open drain valve of this line to drain out condensate if any. Allow steam to flow for some time through this valve to increase temperature of this line Put the control valve of the line in auto to get 12 to 14kg/cm2 pressure. Check all retractable blower are in withdraw position Increased the draft a little higher Start the sequence. Blowing will be started one by one .In case of manual system start blowing one by one in the direction of flue gas flow. After completion of blowing sequence bring back the draft to normal and close the steam isolation valve .
