BE BOLD , BE HEARD . SPEAK UP AND IMPRESS . SUCCESS AWAITS! SPM PAPER 3 : SPEAKING

OVERVIEW IN PAIRS AROUND 13 MINUTES 3 PARTS TOTAL SCORE 24 OVER 25

CAN I LEARN SPEAKING? HOW?

LISTEN Listen more to various types of English conversations PRACTISE Learn to speak with your heart. Be bold. IMITATE Copy the way how English speaker speaks REFLECT Evaluate your own speaking. What was wrong? Correct it!

How Can You Improve Your Speaking Confidence?

TIP 1 : Concentrate on communicating your idea rather than worrying about your grammar usage. There is no right or wrong answer.

Tip 2 : If you are speaking to an interlocutor during the exam, remember that they rarely correct your grammar. They are there to assess your confidence level too. Take a deep breath and stay cool! It is better to speak up than to keep quiet.

Tip 3 : Use phrases instead of trying to remember certain words. Remember phrases which are easy to remember such as “Good morning, teacher”, “I am fine”, “I don’t get you, teacher”, “I will try my best” e.t.c. can help you to start a conversation. They are easy to get right and you can start gaining confidence! If you are nervous, use only standard phrases until you are comfortable enough to use some more challenging sentences.

Tip 4 : The golden rule is always “Practice makes perfect”! Use new phrases and vocabulary every day and practise them with as many friends as you can.

Tip 5 : Maintain eye contact with the interlocutor. Use gesture to elaborate your points if possible. Remember, it is perfectly fine if you mess up things - just keep going!

Tip 6 : Bear in mind that the interlocutor is there to help you. He or she is trying to find ways to assist you with prompts, encourage you to speak and identify your points to reward you. Therefore, just speak with your heart.

Next, Mr Kumar has been my neighbor for 10 years. His family moved into the neighborhood around the same time my family and I did. SUGGESTED ANSWER

Last but not least, Mr Kumar is a warm and friendly individual. His family are always ready to lend a helping hand and have a positive attitude. Over the years, we've gotten to know them quite well. They're a responsible homeowner who takes good care of their property, and they often participate in neighbourhood events and activities. Their children play with us together, and we've even had the pleasure of sharing the occasional barbecue or gathering with them. They are the type of neighbour that you can rely on and feel comfortable approaching with any concerns. What sort of person this neighbour is?

In my opinion, having neighbours like Mr Kumar is important for several reasons. Firstly, they contribute to the sense of community and support that makes living in a neighbourhood a pleasant experience. Secondly, in times of need or emergencies, neighbours can provide assistance and a helping hand, which can be invaluable. Apart from that, neighbours also create a network of social interaction, friendship, and emotional support, which enhances the quality of life in a community. Furthermore, neighbours can help maintain security by looking out for one another and deterring potential issues, fostering a sense of safety. Is it important to have a neighbour? Why/Why not?
