INTRODUCTION: It is an emission spectroscopy which is basically used in detection of alkali metals and alkaline earth metals. It is used for both types of analysis, Qualitative as well as Quantitative It is based on movement of intensity of light emitted when a metal is introduced into flame.
Instrumentation: COMPONENTS OF FLAME PHOTOMETRY: SAMPLE DELIVERY SYSTEM ----- ATOMIZER, NEBULIZERS, BURNER SAMPLE MIRRORS MONOCHROMATOR SLIT / FILTER DETECTOR RECORDER
SAMPLING DELIVERY SYSTEM: It is a complete system which delivers the sample into flame. SAMPLE: It presents in the form of liquid which contain unknown metal salts. MONOCHROMATOR: It converts polychromatic light into monochromatic light of a desired wavelength. SLIT / FILTER: It is basically a part of monochromator and passed a desired single beam of light.
DETECTOR: It converts radiations into electrical signals which we can easily read out through recording system RECORDER: It records the wavelength of the metals.
