My passion for Speech Language Pathology developed later than most of my peers. I was naive
enough freshmen year to think that I could settle as a Psychology major. Thankfully, Speech
Pathology crossed right into my path at the most unforeseen moment. One introduction class was all
it took, I was hooked. I've been exposed to first–hand clinical experiences, job shadowing
opportunities, and professors who were so passionate about their job that they made me want to

Working as a Personal Support Worker for a 23–year old male with Autism has been a rewarding
experience. Working in the mysterious world of autism has required me to think outside of the box,
and adapt to my client's unique way of life. In addition to my part–time work, volunteering as a 1st–
4th grade tutor has heightened my awareness regarding the reading and learning disabilities facing

Children's Center. This experience was very enlightening allowing me to confirm and envisioned
myself in any aspect of the profession. This was the moment when speech therapy became one of

outcasts in society. SLPs work with individuals who are struggling with various sets of problems
and help to solve those problems through undivided attention and spirits of patience and willingness
