Spes non confundit   BULL OF INDICTION OF THE ORDINARY JUBILEE OF THE YEAR 2025

INDEX A Word of Hope A Path of Hope Signs of Hope Calls to Hope Anchored in Hope

«Spes non confundit », «hope does not disappoint» (Rom 5:5). In the heart of every person there is hope as a desire and expectation of good, even if one does not know what tomorrow will bring.

A Word of Hope – “Therefore, since we have been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ. Through him  we have gained access by faith into this grace in which we now stand. And we [ b ]  boast in the hope of the glory of God. . [...] And hope will not be put to shame, because God’s love has been poured out into our hearts through the Holy Spirit who has been given to us” (Rom 5:1-2,5). SNC 2

«For if, when we were enemies, we were reconciled to God through the death o f his Son, much more now that we have been reconciled, we shall be saved by his life» (Rom 5:10). SNC 3

«Who then can separate us from the love of Christ? Will tribulation, distress, persecution, famine, nakedness, danger, sword? [...] But in all these things we have a great victory because of him who loved us. For I am convinced that neither death nor life, nor angels nor principalities, nor things present nor things to come, nor spiritual powers, nor height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will ever be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord» (Rom 8:35.37-39). SNC 3

«We also glory in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance; perseverance produces character; and character produces hope» (Rom 5:3-4). SNC 4

God is patient with us, because he is “the God of constancy and consolation” (Rom 15:5). SNC 4

the sacrament of Reconciliation, the irreplaceable starting point for a true journey of conversion. In the particular Churches, special care should be taken to prepare priests and the faithful for confession and access to the sacrament in its individual form SNC 5

The Catholic Church, which is enriched by its ancient liturgies, by the theology and spirituality of the Fathers, monks and theologians, wishes to symbolically express its welcome to our Orthodox brothers and sisters, at a time when they are already experiencing the pilgrimage of the Way of the Cross SNC 5

the Holy Door of St. Peter's Basilica in the Vatican will be opened from 24 December of this year 2024, -29 December 2024, I will open the Holy Door of the Cathedral of St. John Lateran -1 January 2025, Solemnity of Saint Mary, Mother of God, the Holy Door of the Papal Basilica of St. Mary Major will be opened. - Sunday, 5 January, the Holy Door of the Papal Basilica of St. Paul Outside the Walls will be opened -the closing of the Holy Door of the Papal Basilica of St. Peter in the Vatican on 6 January 2026, Epiphany of the Lord SNC 5

“We must pay attention to all the good in the world so as not to fall into the temptation of considering ourselves overcome by evil and violence” SNC 7

LA PAZ - Humanity, forgetting the tragedies of the past, is subjected to a new and difficult test when it sees many populations oppressed by the brutality of violence. What else is there for these people that they have not already suffered? How is it possible that their desperate cry for help does not inspire those responsible for the nations to want to put an end to the numerous regional conflicts, aware of the consequences that may arise at a global level? SNC 8

Due to the frenetic pace of life, fears about the future, lack of job security and adequate social protection, social models whose agenda is dictated by the pursuit of profit rather than by the care of relationships, there is a worrying decline in birth rates in several countries. On the contrary, in other contexts, "blaming the increase in population and not the extreme and selective consumerism of some is a way of not facing the problems“ SNC 9

Openness to life with responsible fatherhood and motherhood is the project that the Creator has inscribed in the hearts and bodies of men and women, a mission that the Lord entrusts to spouses and to their love.

to boldly demand decent conditions for prisoners and respect for human rights SNC 10

May signs of hope be offered to the sick at home or in hospital. May their suffering be alleviated by the closeness of those who visit them and the affection they receive. SNC 11

The illusion of drugs, the risk of falling into delinquency and the search for the ephemeral cause confusion in young people and obscure the beauty and meaning of life, leading them into dark abysses and inducing them to commit self-destructive gestures SNC 12

Migrants, who leave their land in search of a better life for themselves and their families. May their hopes not be dashed by prejudice and narrow-mindedness; may the welcome that opens its arms to each person on the basis of their dignity be accompanied by responsibility, so that no one is denied the right to build a better future. SNC 13

Grandparents represent the transmission of faith and the wisdom of life to the younger generations. May they be sustained by the gratitude of their children and the love of their grandchildren, who find in them solidity, understanding and encouragement SNC 14

It is scandalous that, in a world endowed with enormous resources, largely used for armaments, the majority of people are poor , - billions of people . SNC 15

Calls to hope - Echoing the ancient words of the prophets, the Jubilee reminds us that the goods of the earth are not destined for a privileged few, but for all. Those who possess wealth must be generous, recognizing the faces of their brothers and sisters in need. SNC 16

"with the money that is used for weapons and other military expenses, let us establish a global fund to end hunger once and for all and for the development of the poorest countries, so that their inhabitants do not resort to violent or deceitful solutions or need to leave their countries to seek a more dignified life" SNC 16

that the richest nations “recognize the gravity of so many decisions taken and decide to forgive the debts of countries that will never be able to pay them off.” SNC 16

there is a real “ecological debt”, particularly between the North and the South, related to trade imbalances with consequences in the ecological sphere, as well as to the disproportionate use of natural resources historically carried out by some countries” SNC 16

Invite Christians to join in praise and thanksgiving to the Holy Trinity and in particular to Jesus Christ, the Son of God, "of the same nature as the Father” SNC 17

May it be a call to all Christians of the East and the West to take a decisive step towards unity around a common date for Easter SNC 17

Anchored in Hope - Hope, together with faith and charity, form the triptych of the “theological virtues” that express the essence of Christian life (cf. 1 Cor 13:13; 1 Thess 1:3). SNC 17

Let us therefore live in expectation of his coming and in the hope of living forever in him. It is in this spirit that we make our own the ardent invocation of the first Christians, with which Sacred Scripture ends: “Come, Lord Jesus!” (Rev 22:20). SNC 19

Christ died, was buried, rose again, and appeared. For our sake he went through the drama of death. The love of the Father raised him up with the power of the Spirit, making his humanity the first fruits of eternity for our salvation SNC 20

may there be an ecumenical celebration where the treasure of the witness of these martyrs is made manifest. SNC 20

"When I have united myself to You with all my being, nothing will be for me pain or sorrow. My life, full of You, will be true life.“ SNC 21

«For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor spiritual powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will ever be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord» (Rom 8:38-39). SNC 21

You have filled your children with a happy hope, because after sin you give a place to repentance […] and when we are judged, we count on your mercy» (Wis 12:19.22). SNC 22

«At the moment of judgment, we experience and welcome this predominance of his love over all evil in the world and in us. The pain of love becomes our salvation and our joy» Benedict XVI - SNC 22

The evil committed (does not) “remain hidden, it needs to be purified, to allow us the definitive passage to the love of God. SNC 22

There is “a need to pray for those who have finished their earthly journey, and to share in the prayerful intercession that finds its own efficacy in the communion of saints.” -The jubilee indulgence, by virtue of prayer, is intended in particular for those who have preceded us, so that they may obtain full mercy. SNC 22

There is no better way to know God than by allowing ourselves to be reconciled with Him (cf. 2 Cor 5:20), by experiencing His forgiveness. Let us not, therefore, renounce Confession, but let us rediscover the beauty of the sacrament of healing and joy, the beauty of the forgiveness of sins. SNC 23

"Every sin, even venial, entails a disordered attachment to creatures that must be purified, either here on earth or after death, in the state called Purgatory ." SNC 23

Forgiveness does not change the past, it cannot modify what has already happened; and yet forgiveness can allow the future to be changed and lived in a different way, without resentment, anger or revenge. SNC 23

During the last extraordinary Jubilee I instituted the Missionaries of Mercy, who continue to carry out an important mission. SNC 23

Hope finds in the Mother of God its highest witness - a gift of grace in the realism of life SNC 24

Stella Maris - In the stormy events of life, the Mother of God comes to our aid, sustains us and invites us to trust and to continue to hope. SNC 24

Our Lady of Guadalupe said to Juan Diego: "Am I not here, I who am your mother?"

I trust that all, especially those who suffer and are troubled, may experience the closeness of the most affectionate of mothers who never abandons her children; she who for the holy People of God is "a sign of certain hope and consolation“ SNC 24
