Spin Spin Coupling
Theinteractionbetweenthespinsofthe

thesplittingoflinesintheNMRspectrum.
Thisphenomenonofsignalsplittingiscalled
SPIN-SPINCOUPLINGorSPLITTING
Thissplittingiscausedbytheinfluenceof
thespinstatesofneighbouringprotons
transmittedthroughchemicalbonds.

Cause of Splitting--
Splittingofsignalcanbedeterminedbytheenvironmentof
theabsorbingprotonwithrespecttoneighbouringproton.
Becauseofdifferentspinstatesofneighbouringprotons,
theactualmagneticfieldexperiencedbygivenprotonmay

Absorbingprotonmayexperienceeachofthemodifiedfield

Since multiplet collapses to a singlet in the
process. It is also called spin decoupling.
