3. Location : left hypochondrium between the fundus of the stomach and the diaphragm behind the midaxillary line opposite the 9th, 10th, and 11th ribs long axis lies parallel to the long axis of the 10th rib

4. Gross features Two ends (anterior and posterior ) anterobasal angle is called clinical angle of spleen because it is felt first when the spleen Three borders (superior, inferior, and intermediate ) Two surfaces (diaphragmatic and visceral)

5. Diaphragmatic surface Convex surface Diaphragm separates it from left lung, pleura and 9-11 th ribs of left side

6. Visceral surface Related with: 1.Fundus of the stomach. 2. Anterior surface of the left kidney. 3. Left colic flexure. 4. Tail of pancreas

7. Peritoneal relations Completely covered by peritoneum except at the hilum Reflection of peritoneum forms gastrosplenic and lieno -renal ligament

8. Ligaments Gastro- splenic Lieno -renal Lieno-phrenic Phrenico -colic

9. Blood supply

10. Development Mesodermal in origin in the two layers of dorsal mesogastrium
