PIND DAAN
Steps to Perform
A Sacred Ritual of Honouring Departed Ancestors in Hinduism

Choose an Auspicious
Date & Time
1.
Pind Daan is usually conducted during Pitru Paksha (a fortnight
honoring ancestors) or on death anniversaries.

2. Prepare Offerings
Gather rice flour, ghee, sesame seeds, milk, honey, fruits, flowers, and
clothing (for donation).

3. Choose a Priest
A lot of people prefer to have a priest conduct the pind daan ritual and
chant mantras.

4. Purification & Pinda Preparation
Take a holy bath and dress neatly. Combine rice flour, ghee, and other
ingredients to make little balls (pindas). Each pinda denotes an
ancestor.

5. Offering Pindas
While reciting mantras, hand over the pindas to the ancestors, calling
out their names and praying for their health. Pour water on the pindas
to satisfy their thirst.

6. Donations & Blessings
Offer clothes and other items to the priest, seeking blessings for both
your ancestors and you.

It is advisable to seek out a priest who has performed Pind Daan
rituals before. Pitradev offers over 8000+ expert pandits and
700+ pujas to help you complete any ritual as effectively and
productively as possible.
