5. why it is important to study stereochemistry? In the late 1950s and early 1960s, the use of  thalidomide  in 46 countries by women who were pregnant to treat nausea, resulted in the "biggest man-made medical disaster ever," with more than 10,000 children born with a range of severe deformities as well as thousands of miscarriages.

6. 40% of the 10000 affected person were died. Those who survived had limb, eye, urinary tract, and heart defects

7. Thalidomide was withdrawn from the markets because of this disaster ..

8. Twenty years after the thalidomide disaster stereochemistry solved the problem and revealed that only the (S)-enantiomer of thalidomide is teratogenic and that made the stereochemistry is one of the important branch of chemistry sciences.

9. What is the field The focus of stereochemistry is on the reactions of stereoisomers, which by definition share the same molecular structure and atom-bonding order ( constitution ), but differ in the atoms' geometric positions in space. It is sometimes referred to as 3D chemistry since the word "stereo-" denotes three-dimensionality.

11. Chirality and chiral center In chemistry, chiral center almost refer to carbon atom bearing four different groups. Chirality is a property of the whole molecule, Chiral compounds are typically optically active. All chiral compounds have chiral center but the opposite is not true.

12. Optical activity optical activity the ability of a substance to rotate the plane of polarized light that is passed through it.
