Student Speech (approx. 4 minutes)
Hello everyone,
Today I’m going to talk about the fashion and clothing of the 1970s.
The 70s were a time of change and creativity. People didn’t just wear clothes to
cover themselves — they used fashion to express who they were.
One of the most famous trends was bell-bottom pants, wide at the bottom and
often combined with bright shirts or blouses. People loved wearing platform
shoes, which made them look taller and gave a fun disco style.
Another popular influence was the hippie movement. Young people wore tie-dye
shirts, headbands, long skirts, and loose clothing to show peace, love, and
freedom. This style reflected their ideas about nature and equality.
On the other side, the disco style was also huge. Think of shiny fabrics, glittery
dresses, jumpsuits, and lots of colors. People wanted to look spectacular when they
went dancing.
Men’s fashion also changed. They wore colorful shirts with wide collars, leather
jackets, and sometimes very daring patterns. Both men and women experimented
with new looks.
In short, the 70s were not about one single style. They were about variety —
mixing hippie, disco, sporty, and casual looks. What made the fashion of this
decade special was that it gave people the freedom to be different and creative.
Thank you.
