A stye is a small,pimple like swelling or lump on the eyelid.

4. Styes is an inflammation of a sebaceous gland of the eyelid. This results in a red tender bump at the edge of the eyelid . DEFINITION

5. ETIOLOGY Bacterial infection by staphylococcus Excessive use of cosmetic Poor nutrition Sleep deprivation Lack of hygiene Lack of water Rubbing of the eyes.

6. SIGNS AND SYMPTOMS Localized swelling of the eyelid Localized pain Redness Tenderness Crusting of the eyelid margins Burning in the eye Droopiness of the eyelid A lump on the top eyelid Itching

7. Blurred vision Mucous discharge in the eye Irritation of the eye Light sensitivity Tearing Discomfort during blinking Sensation of a foreign body in the eye SIGNS AND SYMPTOMS

9. MEDICAL MANAGEMENT Analgesics Acetaminophen Erythromycin ophthalmic ointment is recommended. Other antibiotics : Chloramphenicol Amoxicillin Warm compression for 10 -15 min, four times a day.

10. SURGICAL MANAGEMENT Incision and drainage .

11. Prevention Proper Eye hygiene Proper hand washing Never share cosmetic Remove makeup every night before going to sleep . Discard old or contaminated eye makeup
