Subjects to be studied in BPT Dr. Sonam Verma Assistant Professor Dept. of Physiotherapy Suresh Gyan Vihar University Jaipur Rajasthan

ANATOMY Anatomy  (Greek  anatomē , 'dissection') is the branch of  biology concerned with the study of the structure of  organisms  and their parts. Anatomy is inherently tied to  developmental biology , embryology , comparative anatomy, evolutionary biology , and Phylogeny , as these are the processes by which anatomy is generated, both over immediate and long-term timescales

PHYSIOLOGY Physiology  is the  study  of how the human body works. It describes the chemistry and physics behind basic body functions, from how molecules behave in cells to how systems of organs work together. It helps us understand what happens in a healthy body in everyday life and what goes wrong when someone gets sick

BIOCHEMISTRY Biochemistry  is the branch of science that explores the chemical processes within and related to living organisms. It is a laboratory based science that brings together biology and chemistry. By using chemical knowledge and techniques,  biochemists  can understand and solve biological problems.

PSYCHOLOGY & SOCIOLOGY Psychology is the scientific study of the mind and behavior, according to the American Psychological Association. Psychology is a multifaceted discipline and includes many sub-fields of study such areas as human development, sports, health, clinical, social behavior and cognitive processes. Sociology is a social science concerned with the study of society and human behaviour and relationships. ... The subject matter is diverse and can cover anything from race, social class, crime and law, poverty, education and more theoretical wider issues such as the impact of radical change to whole societies

EXERCISE THERAPY Exercise therapy  is defined as a regimen or plan of  physical  activities designed and prescribed to facilitate the patients to recover from diseases and any conditions, which disturb their movement and activity of daily life or maintain a state of well‐being through neuro re‐education, gait training, and  therapeutic

ELECTRO THERAPY Electrotherapy  is primarily  used in  physical therapy for relaxation of muscle spasms, prevention and retardation of disuse atrophy, increase of local blood circulation, muscle rehabilitation and re-education electrical muscle stimulation, maintaining and increasing range of motion, management of chronic and intractable

COMPUTERS Computer  science is the study of computation and information.  Computer  science deals with theory of computation, algorithms, computational problems and the design of  computer  systems hardware, software and applications.

ENGLISH COMMUNICATION & SKILLS Communication  is simply the act of transferring information from one place, person or group to another. Every  communication  involves (at least) one sender, a message and a recipient. This may sound simple, but  communication  is actually a very complex subject.

PHARMACOLOGY Pharmacology  is the study of how a drug affects a biological system and how the body responds to the drug. The discipline encompasses the sources, chemical properties, biological effects and therapeutic uses of drugs. These effects can be therapeutic or toxic, depending on many factors

PATHOLOGY Clinical pathology  is a medical specialty that is concerned with the diagnosis of disease based on the laboratory analysis of bodily fluids such as blood and urine, as well as tissues, using the tools of chemistry, clinical microbiology, hematology and molecular pathology.

MICROBIOLOGY Microbiology  is the study of microscopic organisms, such as bacteria, viruses, archaea, fungi and protozoa. This discipline includes fundamental research on the biochemistry, physiology, cell biology, ecology, evolution and clinical aspects of microorganisms, including the host response to these agents.

BIOMECHANICS Biomechanics  is the science of movement of a living body, including how muscles, bones, tendons, and ligaments work together to produce movement.  Biomechanics  is part of the larger field of kinesiology, specifically focusing on the mechanics of the movement

FUNCTIONAL ASSESMENT & OUTCOME MEASURES (FAOM) Functional assessment  is a continuous collaborative process that combines observing, asking meaningful questions, listening to family stories, and analyzing individual child skills and behaviors within naturally occurring everyday routines and activities across multiple situations and settings.

COMMUNITY MEDICINE Community Medicine  has been defined as that specialty which deals with populations, and comprises those doctors who try to measure the needs of the population, both sick and well, who plan and administer services to meet those needs, and those who are engaged in research and teaching in the field.

COMMUNITY BASED REHABILITATION The aim of  community - based rehabilitation  (CBR) is to help people with disabilities, by establishing  community - based  medical integration, equalization of opportunities, and Physical therapy (Physiotherapy)  rehabilitation  programs for the disabled.

CLINICAL ORTHOPAEDICS Orthopedics is the field of medicine that focuses on surgery on, or manipulation of, the musculoskeletal system. The surgical specialty was originally focused on developmental deformities and the effects of polio in children, but today it has expanded significantly to address all the conditions and diseases affecting the musculoskeletal system in individuals of all ages

CLINICAL NEUROLOGY & NEUROSURGERY Neurology is  the branch of medicine concerned with the study and treatment of disorders of the nervous system. The nervous system  is  a complex, sophisticated system that regulates and coordinates body activities. It has two major divisions: Central nervous system: the brain and spinal cord. Neurosurgery  is surgery of the nervous system. It is the medical specialty concerned with the diagnosis and treatment of of patients with injury to, or diseases/disorders of the brain, spinal cord and spinal column, and peripheral nerves within all parts of the body.

CLINICAL MEDICINE branch of  medicine  that deals with the diagnosis and (nonsurgical) treatment of diseases of the  internal  organs (especially in adults) Synonyms:  internal medicine  Type of:  medical  specialty,  medicine . the branches of  medical  science that deal with nonsurgical techniques

CLINICAL PAEDIATRICS Pediatrics is the branch of medicine dealing with the health and medical care of infants, children, and adolescents from birth up to the age of 18. The word “ paediatrics ” means “healer of children”; they are derived from two Greek words: ( pais = child) and ( iatros = doctor or healer).

CLINICAL OBSTETRICS & GYNECOLOGY A branch of medicine that specializes in the care of women during pregnancy and childbirth and in the diagnosis and treatment of diseases of the female reproductive organs.

CLINICAL SURGERY Surgery  is a medical specialty that uses operative manual and instrumental techniques on a person to investigate or treat a pathological condition such as a disease or injury, to help improve bodily function or appearance or to repair unwanted ruptured areas.

PT in Orthopedic conditions This is the branch of  physiotherapy  concerned with the treatment of injuries or disorders of the skeletal system and associated muscles, joints and ligaments  Orthopaedic Physiotherapy  also includes pre and post operative rehabilitation of hip, shoulder and knee.

PT in Neurological conditions & Paediatrics Neurological physiotherapy  involves the treatment of people with movement and function disorders that have originated from problems within the body's nervous and neuromuscular system. Paediatric physiotherapists  help children to achieve their optimal physical development. They have specialist knowledge in the movement, development and conditions that are likely to affect the baby and growing child and treat from 1-day-old babies to adolescents.

PT in Obs. & Gyne with surgical conditions Women's Health  Physiotherapy  is the therapeutic treatment of all disorders affecting the pelvis and pelvic floor. From incontinence to prolapse, pelvic pain or constipation, there is growing evidence that  physiotherapy  can alleviate, and in many cases cure these symptoms PT helps in the proper circulation of blood after  surgery , thus preventing blood clots. Helps in improving the muscle strength, posture and balance of the body.  Physiotherapy  also proves beneficial in helping a person get back on their feet.

PT in Medicine & Cardio-pulmonary disorders Cardiorespiratory  physiotherapy  is an area of  physiotherapy  that specializes in the prevention, rehabilitation, and compensation of clients with diseases and injuries in the heart and lungs.

SPORTS NUTRITION & EXERCISE PHYSIOLOGY Exercise physiology is a specialization within the field of kinesiology. These medical professionals study the body's responses to physical activity as well as how the  body  adapts to physical activity over time

ORTHOSIS & PROSTHETICS A  prosthesis  is defined as an “externally applied device used to replace wholly, or in part, an absent or deficient limb segment”.  Orthotics  is a specialty within the field of health care technology concerned with the design, manufacture, and application of  orthoses

SPORTS REHABILITATION Sports Rehabilitation is the process of deciding when an injured player may safely return to practice or competition. Injuries can occur in any sporting activity, and sports injury rehabilitation is a very important part of the athletes sport life. All athletes over time, professional or not, are prone to injuries due to the excessive wear and tear associated with the demands of competitive sport. The right exercise program to maintain strength, flexibility and stability can help athletes recover quickly after an injury, empowering them to resume athletic activities.

RESEARCH & BIOSTATISTICS Research  is a tool by which they can test their own, and each others' theories, by using this antagonism to find an answer and advance knowledge. The  purpose of research  is really an ongoing process of correcting and refining hypotheses, which should lead to the acceptance of certain  scientific  truths Biostatistics  are the development and application of statistical methods to a wide range of topics in biology. It encompasses the design of biological experiments, the collection and analysis of data from those experiments and the interpretation of the results.
