awakenedbeforedawnbyhisoldercousinMourad,who

poverty but also for its honesty, so it is unthinkable that
Mouradcould have stolen the horse.
•Nevertheless, Aram asks Mouradif he has stolen the horse,
and Mouradinvites him to
jump out the window if he
wants to go for a ride.

•Now Aram is sure that Mouradhas stolen the horse, but he
jumps up behind Mourad, and the two of them begin to ride
out of the little town in which they live.
•As they ride, Mouradbegins to sing.

farmer,alsocomesbyforavisitandcomplainsthathis

“Paynoattentiontoit.”JohnByrosaysthathewalkedten
milestogettoAram’shouse,causingpainsinhislegs,and
UncleKhosroveagainbellowsthatheshouldpayno
attentiontoit.

forrides,andeverymorningAramisthrown,buthenever
givesuphopethathewilllearntoridelikehiscousin.One
morningtheboysmeetJohnByroastheyareputtingthe
horseaway.Mouradexplainsthathewillhandlethe
situation,ashehasawaywithfarmers.JohnByroasksthe
nameofthehorse,andMouradtellshimthatitisMyHeart.

Thefarmersaysthathelooksexactlylikethehorsethat
wasstolenfromhimand,afterinspectingthehorse’steeth,
saysthattheboy’shorsecouldbehishorse’stwin.
Thenextmorning,theboysreturnthehorsetoJohnByro’s
barn.Thefarmer’sdogsdonotbotherthembecause
CousinMouradhasawaywithdogs.Hepresseshisnose
againstthehorse’snose,andtheboysleave.

surreytoshowAram’smotherthehorsethathasbeen
returned.Hesaysthatthehorseisstrongerandbetter-
