Introduction Nowadays, for the key success of textile and apparel industry, supply chain management is very essential and important. That’s why the deep attention of top management is to develop and manage an effective supply chain management system. The process of managing resources, the movement of resources from one party to another, one place to another place, one department to another department, and one section to another section is called as supply chain management. Technology Trends Transforming the Fashion Supply Chain Process 1. Wearable Technology Incorporation of smart glasses and watches into warehouses and distribution centers to enhance in- house communications amongst staff Make rapid real-time data-sharing possible via voice command systems and instant photo capture Increasing employee efficiency and communication. E.g., Activity-tracking Bracelets, Finger-trigger Gloves, Voice headsets, etc. 2. Artificial Intelligence Align demand with product distribution, reduce profit-eroding markdowns Also analyzes sales to determine which products are popular or sluggish, by utilizing technology that increases ratio of hits to misses by better allocating resources Utilizes deep learning on collected data to provide critical insights that increases the production resources dedicated to successful products
Technology Trends Transforming the Fashion Supply Chain Process 3. Agile Supply Chain Methodology Prioritizes adaptability Immediate solutions available to avoid potentially catastrophic delays Apparel companies are now better leveraging inventory by adding new distribution centers and growing physical resources to achieve greater agility in meeting demand 4. Sustainable Supply Chain Companies' efforts to consider the environmental and human impact of their products' journey through the supply chain Ecological footprint of textile industry is not sustainable as the sector is emitting 1.7 billion Tones of CO2 and 2.1 billion tones of waste per year Example: process innovation can be seen in Nike's ColorDry - a technology to dye fabric using CO2, Patagonia Archroma Advance Denim Technology that results in shorter production lines needing 30 percent less energy and 84 percent less water
Conclusion: Supply chain management (SCM) is nothing but a discipline that manages the flow of supplies through all of the stages of a production cycle. SCM is applicable to any organization or industry that executes projects, produces goods or provides services, as those activities require a supply chain to maintain a steady flow of resources. The main goal of supply chain management in textile and fashion industry are to reduce cost, improve the overall organization performance, brand value and customer satisfaction by improving product or service delivery to the consumer.
