VERSE 5 Whatever palm trees you ˹believers˺ cut down or left standing intact, it was ˹all˺ by Allah’s Will, so that He might disgrace the rebellious.
“Linah” is kind of a second grade date-palm tree, the preferred kinds being `Ajwah and Barni. The Prophet had allowed cutting down of some date-palm trees for reasons of access to the forts The Jews protested by saying, “Muhammad! You had always prevented destruction, now what has happened?” So Allah revealed this verse (Ibn Jarir, Kash shaf , Ibn Kathir).
Rules of war in Islam
Verse 6 And whatever of the spoils of war Allah bestowed on His Messenger (obtained) from them, against which you neither spurred horse nor camel, but rather Allah gives power to His Messengers over whomsoever He will; and Allah has power over all things.
Matter of spoil of Banu Nadir
Verse 7
As for gains granted by Allah to His Messenger from the people of ˹other˺ lands, they are for Allah and the Messenger , his close relatives , orphans, the poor, and ˹needy˺ travellers so that wealth may not merely circulate among your rich. Whatever the Messenger gives you, take it. And whatever he forbids you from, leave it. And fear Allah. Surely Allah is severe in punishment.
Economic policy of Islam
Whatever the Messenger gives you, take it. And whatever he forbids you from, leave it.
Verse 8 ˹Some of the gains will be˺ for poor emigrants who were driven out of their homes and wealth, seeking Allah’s bounty and pleasure, and standing up for Allah and His Messenger. They are the ones true in faith. HONOURING MUHAJIROON
Hijra
VERSE 9
HONOURING ANSAAR As for those who had settled in the city and ˹embraced˺ the faith before ˹the arrival of˺ the emigrants, they love whoever immigrates to them , never having a desire in their hearts for whatever ˹of the gains˺ is given to the emigrants. They give ˹the emigrants˺ preference over themselves even though they may be in need . And whoever is saved from the selfishness of their own souls, it is they who are ˹truly˺ successful.
AN EXAMPLARY BEHAVIOUR
QUALITIES OF SELFLESS PEOPLE Dhannun Misri was asked, “What is the condition of a zahid who has an open heart?” He answered, “Three: (a) distribution of that which is in his possession, (b) not seeking after what has been denied, and, (c) preferring others when given.”
VERSE 10
A DUA FOR US TO LEARN And those who come after them will pray, “Our Lord! Forgive us and our fellow believers who preceded us in faith, and do not allow bitterness into our hearts towards those who believe. Our Lord! Indeed, You are Ever Gracious, Most Merciful.”
BEAUTIFUL ANALOGY Qurtubi adds: Some scholars have said, “Be a sun! If you cannot, be a moon! If you cannot, be a star! If you cannot, be a planet.!” The interpretation is: Be a Muhajir. If you cannot, then be an Ansari. If you cannot, then try to be of the same quality of deeds as they. But if you cannot, then seek forgiveness for them as Allah has ordered
TADABBUR WHAT RULE OF ECONOMIC POLICY WE LEARNT TODAY HOW CAN WE IMPLEMENT IN OURSELF AND IN COMMUNITY “Whatever the Messenger gives you, take it. And whatever he forbids you from, leave it.” WHAT DOES standing up for Allah and His Messenger“ MEANS HOW TO CURE SELFISHNESS? HOW THE SOCIETY BENEFITS FROM VERSE 10
