Topics to be studied Anterior Tibial Artery Deep Peroneal Nerve Superficial Peroneal Nerve Dorsalis Pedis Artery Superior Extensor Retinaculum Inferior Extensor Retinaculum Tibial Nerve Common Peroneal Nerve Posterior Tibial Artery Flexor Retinaculum
Anterior Tibial Artery Take a point 2.5 cm below the medial side of the head of the fibula Put another point midway between the medial and lateral malleoli Joint these points by a line which passes downwards and slightly medially
Deep Peroneal Nerve Put a point on the lateral side of the neck of the fibula Put another point midway between the medial and lateral malleoli (Same as Anterior tibial artery) Join these points by a line which passes medially in the upper part and is vertical in the lower part
Superficial Peroneal Nerve A point at the lateral aspect of the neck of the fibula. (same as deep peroneal nerve) A point at the junction of middle and lower one-third of the leg, on the anterior border of the peroneus longus where the nerve pierces the deep fascia. The peroneus longus is made prominent by the eversion and plantar flexion of the foot. Join these points by a line
Dorsalis Pedis Artery A point midway between the two malleoli Another point at the proximal end of the first intermetatarsal space Join these lines
Superior Extensor Retinaculum It is represented by a broad band of 3 cm width from anterior border of the subcutaneous triangular area of fibula to the lower part of the anterior border of the tibia .
Tibial Nerve A point at the lower limit of the popliteal fossa Another point midway between the medial malleoli and tendo calcaneus A line joining these points
Posterior Tibial Artery A point at the back of the leg at the level of the neck of the fibula, in line with the tibial tuberosity A point midway between the medial malleoli and the tendo-calcaneous A line joining these points
Flexor Retinaculum It is represented by a band, 2.5 cm wide, which extends from the medial malleoli downwards and backwards to the medial side of the heel.
