of Gujarat. Amul operates on principles of democracy
and cooperation. Amul symbolizes faith in
cooperation. Amul has rendered tools of development
in the hands of farmer producers. Amul is Asia’s
largest milk brand.

AmulFed Dairy Gandhinagar (AFD) was commissioned in September 1994 with
milk handling capacity of 10 Lakh litre per day. AmulFed Dairy, Gandhinagar is
now fully automated, a multi product manufacturing plant with milk handling
capacity of more than 60 Lakh litres per day. This makes it one of the largest dairy
plant in Asia receiving such a huge volume of milk and converting into various
value added dairy products at a single location.
AmulFed Dairy is established with basic objectives -
To receive “Surplus Milk” from the Member Union Dairies of Gujarat.
To supply healthy & nutritious milk products in Ahmedabad and adjoining areas.

CLIMATE ACTION GOAL
AFD has adopted energy efficient technologies since inception For environment protection. We have also kept pace with subsequent technological upgradations.
We use the clean fuel - Natural Gas since last 20 years. Switching over from Liquid fuel to NG and use of condensing economizers in boilers has already reduced
carbon emission by about 30000 Tons/annum. In addition, approximately 4.33% of our annual fuel consumption is catered by biogas generated from effluent
treatment plant, resulting into reduction in carbon emission by 1200 Tons per annum.
Our current annual carbon emission is about 100000 Tons with about 70% contribution from electricity and 30% from fuel. Sourcing of power from wind
turbine through open access and on site generation of power from solar PV system has reduced our carbon emission by almost 4%.
In addition, we have planned setting up of 10 MW wind solar hybrid power generation system. This will generate approximately 429 Lakh kWh/annum,
contributing almost 50% of our annual electricity consumption. Reduction in carbon emission will be about 34000 Tons/annum.
In our Rajkot plant, we have planned installation of biomass briquette fired boiler which is considered to be carbon neutral fuel. We will continue our efforts to
contribute to country's climate action goals.

GENERAL MANAGER’S DESK
AmulFed Dairy Sustainability Report, 2023-24 11
Mankind cannot create the nature, but can conserve and preserve the nature, so that future generations can survive and live a healthy
and productive life on the Mother Earth.
Mother Earth has a treasure of precious natural resources which we have been depleting since centuries. Within last 400-500 years,
human race has advanced at a higher pace and equally or even at a higher rate, have brutally exploited these resources. Every
moment, as we relish fresh air, clean water, bright sunlight, flora and fauna around us, is a reminder to a mankind to act responsibly
to preserve these resources for our future generation.
Amulfed Dairy is continuously pursuing in making rational use of the natural resources and attempting to adopt Sustainable
solutions to manage the operations and preserve the environment.
We have identified and assessed various issues pertaining to people, planet and governance that are most significant to the business
and its stakeholders. This process helps us to focus on strategizing our sustainability goals, to derive most significant risks and
opportunities and to drive continuous improvement.
The ideology of efficiency and prudence in usage of resources and efforts of recharging back the resources like ground water shall help in making the operations sustainable
and long lasting.
Sustainable performance across the value chain while serving the interest of our stake holders has been priority for the organisation. Sustainable solutions are key drivers of
our operations. We seek to source raw material from suppliers engaged in environmental friendly work practices, energy efficient operations and using more renewable
energy. We select the plant technology and machinery which are most energy efficient, having lower carbon footprints and meeting statutory compliances. We continuously
upgrade our plant technology and operations to minimize utilization of valuable resources like water, air, etc. and utilities like power, steam, refrigeration, etc. We are
working towards increasing the share of renewable energy in our operations.

In the year 2023-24 we have sourced 5601 MWh power from Solar and Wind energy sources which contributes to 7 % of total energy consumption of our plant operations.
We have taken target to increase the contribution of usage of renewable energy upto 10 % of our total energy consumption. We have installed thermal energy regeneration
system resulting into saving in Natural Gas by 0.56 Lac SCM/annum and Power Saving 1.47 Lac kWh/annum. We have achieved reduction by 7.6 % in carbon emission and
have a target to achieve 35 % reduction by the year 2030.
We have developed compostable straws and replaced more than 280 million plastic straws with compostable straws used in our beverage category. By elimination of shrink
wrapping, we have eliminated usage of more than 36 MT plastic in the year 2023-24.
We channelize our efforts in addressing very apt and pertinent global Sustainable Development goals on Climate action, Responsible consumption and production, decent
work and economic growth, Clean water and sanitation, affordable and clean energy, Zero hunger, Good health and well being, Gender equality, etc. We make conscious
efforts to sensitize our team to make systematic efforts in identifying various avenues and contribute in addressing these goals.
We understand the nutritional requirements of the consumers and continuously work to innovate and deliver products with exceptional quality, reasonable prices and
rendering health benefits to the consumers. We continue to strengthen their confidence in our brand and be the most trustworthy choice of our consumers. We drive 3A
approach ~ Awareness, Availability and Affordability in our product distribution.
We build a work environment on trust and make employees accountable for their performance. This has led to increased employee engagement and their valuable
contribution in the growth story of the organisation. Motivated and productive employees are the assets to the organisation. Several employee engagement activities are
closely knit with operational activities like tool box talk, food safety talk, kaizen sharing programs, blood donation camps, National Milk Day Celebrations, Industrial Safety
Week Celebration, Food Safety Week Celebration, World Environment Day Celebration, International Women’s Day Celebration, etc. Such initiatives are yielding vibrancy
and creating opportunity for employees to participate and enhance their performance.

What is materiality?
A materiality assessment is the process of identifying and prioritizing
the social, environmental and economic issues that are most
significant to the business and its stakeholders. This process helps
organization focus their strategies and reporting on the risks and
opportunities that matter most and to drive continuous
improvement.
Materiality matrix is prescribed to devise strategic direction setting
