SWOT Analysis of the NFL
Strengths:
- One of the most watched sports in the world.
- Annual revenue is more than $12 billion.
- Strong associations with top sponsors

Obviously, the NFL has a lot of strengths as they are one of the most successful major sport
leagues in the world. It was hard to choose which strengths to use for this SWOT analysis.
The NFL generates a lot of money every year because of all the brand deals, sponsors, TV
deals, merchandise, etc. The money they generate annually is roughly more than $12 billion.

Weaknesses:
- Not a strong global fanbase
- No global presence
- A lot of diversity within the league

Even the NFL is a powerhouse business with a lot of strengths that doesn’t mean they
don’t have some major weaknesses. The fanbase in the US is huge and extremely loyal.
With that being said their global fanbase is not even close to that. That is due to no team
being located outside of the United States but there are international games that are being

2. held to help grow this fanbase. Along with not a strong global fanbase that leads to no
global presence. Another major weakness within the NFL is the diversity that occurs with
players and teams. Whether that be some legal issues from players or someone within the
organization saying something that affects the brand of the league.

Opportunities:
- Expand teams globally (Expansion)
- Product expansion

There is always room to grow for a business like the NFL. A big one that could make them
grow even bigger would be an expansion team or a team relocating to a different country. For
the past few years, the NFL has been steadily growing their global fanbase with international
games all around the world but with an actual solidified team in one spot that could get loyal
fans to support that team.

Threats:
- Other major sports leagues
- The Us economy

Other major sports leagues in the US are big threats to the NFL. Those other leagues consist
of the MLB, NBA, MLS, and NHL. If another big game or event is on from another league
that could hurt the NFL by taking away views and fans which would lose them money. The

3. US economy could also be a threat to the NFL if there is a recession then fans or consumers
won’t be purchasing merchandise or be able to support the league.
