I Choose What is Good: Making Morally Right Choices and Decisions In any moment of decision, the best thing you can do is the right thing. the next best thing is the wrong thing, and the worst thing you can do is nothing. -Theodore Rooseveltrane

STEP IN Mechanics Choose a task from the list found on the next page. Encircle the picture corresponding to the task. Fill out each shoeprint with a step which would lead you to accomplishing your chosen task. Make sure that you arrange the steps from the first thing you would do (Step 1) to the last (Step 5)

Making Sound Decisions You must understand that decision-making is not complex all the time. Making decisions involve simple and mundane things like the following: What time should I wake up? How will I fix my hair? What things should I bring to school? What should I eat during recess? Where do I throw my trash? Whom will I consult regarding my homework? What time will I go home?

Many people decide using various methods, some of which may seem easy, but could lead you to making unsound decisions. These are some examples of wrong ways in the process of decision-making: Wrong Ways of Decisions-Making Fatalism. Fatalism involves relying on fate, destiny, or the natural effects of the events in the universe to make a particular decision. Fatalism denies reason and ignores the capacities of intellect and conscience. Some examples of decisions made relying on fate include:

Wrong Ways of Decisions-Making Leaving everything to chance "tossing of coin“ Interpretation of signs or events. Believing in superstitions.

Wrong Ways of Decisions-Making Extreme Individualism. Some people make decisions just because they want to be different or unique. This denies the value of having people help you in making decisions.

Wrong Ways of Decisions-Making Conformism. Some people make decisions based on what the majority or most people think, but always remember that the popular voice is not always the right voice. It does not mean that when everyone else agrees, it is already correct. Conformists are like fatalists in a way since they do not allow logic and conscience to help them in making a decision; hence, an outside force, this time in the form of a human crowd in this context, decides for him or her.

Reflect and answer the following questions: Which of the wrong ways in decisions making have you done in your life? What were the effects of your decision? Seat work: 2 Rubrics: Idea of Explanation: 5 Relevance to the topic: 5 Total of 10 pts.

As human persons with dignity and conscience, we are capable of making decisions. Freedom enables us to perform this capacity, and law guides us in making these decisions. The virtues serve as a guide so that we would never get lost in our journey toward what is good. Since we know that certain steps must be taken to arrive at a sound decision, let us call the four guides in decision-making the "T-R-I-P" guide: Think, Reflect, Inquire, and Pray. Steps In Making Sound Decisions

TRIP Step 1: Think - To arrive at a good decision, we must think first. Answering these questions will help you decide. Why am I doing the act? What is my goal? Am I aiming to achieve something good? How will I achieve that goal? Will I do something good or will this lead to negative results? What are the things and who are the people who will be affected with what I will do? Is it the right time to do it? Steps In Making Sound Decisions

The virtue of prudence plays an important role in this step. Prudence helps us remember that we must act in the right situation and in the right manner. Prudence helps us bear in mind to reach our goals by doing what is morally right. Our goal will never justify the bad act. For example, getting money from your parents without their consent so you could help a classmate is not good Steps In Making Sound Decisions

TRIP Step 2: Reflect – Reflecting means two things: trying to assess your feelings regarding the act, and trying to imagine what would happen when you do it. There is value in assessing our emotions. Our feelings can lead us to understand the effects and consequences of our decision. Sensitivity to our emotions like happiness, peace, fear, and even guilt will guide us in making a sound decision. Steps In Making Sound Decisions

TRIP Step 3: Inquire There is value in researching for relevant laws. We must always educate ourselves with the rules and laws around us. Ignorance is not an excuse. After understanding the rules relevant to our decision-making, we must obey these laws of different groups and organizations. Steps In Making Sound Decisions

TRIP Step 4: Pray Prayer is one's connection to the God he or she worships. It strengthens the faith and hope of a person, and it is an acknowledgment that you cannot overcome the challenge alone. God will help you decide. This act gives a person wisdom in making a decision and courage in the decision made. Steps In Making Sound Decisions

Reflect and answer the following questions: How is thinking different from reflecting? Can you list down three things you usually reflect on? What does inquiring and praying have in common? How will these two steps help you make sound decisions? Homework: 1 Rubrics: Idea of Explanation: 5 Relevance to the topic: 5 Total of 10 pts.
