. Introduction - Definition: Tamra Bhasma is a calcined copper preparation, considered a Rasayana (rejuvenating) agent. Meaning: “Tamra” means copper, “Bhasma” means ash, symbolizing transformation and purification

Characteristic of Tamra Bhasma बर्हिकण्ठप्रभं ताम्रं मृतं भवति केवलम् । पिष्टं चूर्णत्वमायाति सरसं येत्सचन्द्रिकम् ॥(Α.Ρ.3/144) Tamra Bhasma is as bright the colour of peacock’s neck and converts into powder form on rubbing. If Tamra is to be incinerated with mercury, it would be shiny.

II. Chemical/Phytochemical Composition_ - Copper content: 80-90%, representing the Pitta dosha - Other trace elements: iron, zinc, etc., representing the Tridosha balance

III. Pharmacodynamics and Pharmacokinetics Absorption : slow absorption due to calcination, allowing for gradual assimilation Distribution : throughout the body, targeting the Tridosha balance Metabolism : converted to copper ions, enhancing bioavailability. Excretion : through urine and feces, representing the elimination of toxins

IV. Therapeutic Properties Rasayana (rejuvenating): promotes overall health and longevity. Tridosha Shamaka (balances all three doshas): restores equilibrium Antimicrobial , anti-inflammatory , etc.: addresses various health concerns

Awastha Anusara Uses Preventive : boosts immunity, enhances Ojas (vital energy) Symptomatic relief : fever, cough, skin diseases, representing Kapha and Pitta imbalances Detoxification : purifies blood, representing Rakta Shodhana (blood purification) Disease management : diabetes, heart problems, representing Pitta and Kapha imbalances Rejuvenation : anti-aging, skin tone improvement, representing Rasayana effects. Disease eradication : skin infections, wounds, representing the elimination of toxins

VI. Dosage and Administration_- Matra (dose) : 15-30 mg, representing the subtle yet potent nature of Tamra Bhasma . Anupana (vehicle): Ghee, Honey, or Water, representing the Tridosha balance Pathyapathya (dietary regimen): avoid sour, salty foods, representing the avoidance of Pitta-aggravating factors Sevana Kala (time): Morning and Evening, representing the balance of day and night cycles Kala Maryada (duration): 1 -3 months, representing the gradual and sustained approach to healing

Ashuddha Apakwa, Avidhi Sevanajanya Vyadhi, and Shantyupaya_ Ashuddha Tamra Sevanajanya Dosha न विषं विषमित्वाहुस्ताघ्रं तु विषमुच्यते । एको दोषो विषे ताने त्वष्टौ दोषाः प्रकीर्तिताः ।। भ्रमोः मूर्च्छा विदाहश्च स्वेदक्लेदनवान्तयः । अरुचिश्चित्तसंताप एते दोषा विषोपमाः ।।(A.P.3/115-116 One Dosha but Tamra has 8 Dosha like Bhrama , Murchchha , Vidaha , Sveda , Kleda , Vanti , Aruchi and Chittasantapa Dosha Shanti Trusharthe Dhanyaka Kashaya+Sharkara Shyamaka Anna + Sharkara for 3 days and Chandrodaya Rasa for 2-3 days (R.S. Dhatu Shodhana Prakarana /109) .

Shantiupaya Treatments to pacify the ill effects produced by Tamra: Munivrihi ( Sesbaniagrandiflora ) + Sita (sugar) Sevana , Dhanyaka ( Coriandum sativum ) + Sita Sevana , MuktaBhasma (calcined ash of pearl) Sevana .
