3. INTRODUCTION OF TANNINS Tanning are defined as complex substance that usually occur as the mixture of polyphenol that are very difficult to separate. 6. Occurrence and Distribution of tannins Occurrence- They consist high molecular weight and low molecular weight group of very complex chemical of plant. They are not found in animals Distribution- They are distributed in different part of plant Ex- leaf, bark, seed etc.

Isolation of tannins Taken tannin containing crude drug Convert in powder form the powder drug treated with ether Ether extract, solvent recover & dried room temperature Dried drug again treated with 0.1% w/v NaOH aqueous solvent of base is neutralized with 0.1% v/v HCL Cont ….. Note- 0.1% w/v NaOH= 0.1gm NaOH dissolve in 100ml water. 0.1%v/v HCl= 0.1ml cont. HCl add in 100ml water.
