WHAT IS TAOISM? Taoism (also spelled Daoism) is a religion and philosophy from ancient China that instructs believers on how to exist in harmony with the universe. It holds that humans and animals should live in balance with the Tao, or the universe.
WHO IS THE FOUNDER OF TAOISM? Legends say the founder of Taoism is Lao Tzu, who around 500 B.C.E. wrote the main book of Taoism, the Tao Te Ching. He is said to have been a scholar who worked as a keeper of records for a chou lord. He was unhappy with moral decay of his time, so he withdrew to his home to think about the meaning of life. His meditation made him a very wise man.
TAO TE CHING The Tao Te Ching or “The Way of Life” is a collection of poetry and sayings from around the 3 rd and 4 th centuries B.C.E. that guides Taoist thought and actions. It recommends bending to accommodate rather than breaking under the stresses of life.
TAO Tao is an unknowable force that can be translated as “The Way” . Taoists view the Tao as the connection that makes all life and movement in nature possible. The Tao is “eternally nameless”
YIN YANG Tao is composed of two opposite energies called yin and yang. Taoists believe everything in existence has the characteristics of both the yin and yang. The yin is cold, dark and mysterious; it is associated with the earth and female. The yang is warm, bright, and positive; it is associated with heaven and male.
Taoism View on Education Education is a solo quest without walls or boundaries. Let nature be the teacher. Fostering balance and harmony in the classroom. Learning is increased by effort day by day but growing in the Tao occurs in an effortless ways. The Tao never rejects a bad person.
