Introduction:
My native place is Tarikere, it is a talluk in
Chikmagalore District in the state of Karnataka.
It is one of the major tourist place in ore district,
it is the gate way for “Malenadu”. it is famous for
areca nut plantations. The people here are very
good. It is the place which includes beautiful hills,
forest, lakes, falls and many more things which
makes me to proud that my native is Tarikere.
Brief history:
The word Tarikere is derived form the word “
Tari ” and “ Kere “, “Tari” means “paddy” and
“kere” means “Large water tanks”. It is
surrounded by number of large water tanks
namely; Chikkere, Doddakere, Dalavikere,
Ramanayakakere, kenndaralla etc.
My native place Tarikere had been ruled by many
kings in that kings Sarjahanumantha naika is very
important king because all Tarikerean believes
that he was the builder of Tarikere.
How to reach my native:
You can reach my native by road and train
By Road-
Tarikere can be reached by a road, National
Highway 206 ( Bangalore to Honnavara ) passes
through Tarikere town.
By Train-
Tarikere lies on the Bangalore - Shimoga railway
station line and there are trains from Mysroe and
Bangalore which stops at Tarikere on the way to
Shimoga.

According to 2001 Indian census-
Total population 22,4,093
Male constitutes 51%
Female constitutes 49%
Literacy rate 68%
Male 73%
Female 62%
Tarikere has an average literacy rate of 68% higher than national
average of 59.5%.

people of different
religions have been living
happily. Still Tarikeren
are believes the
traditional way of living.
Agriculture is the primary industry here.
The major cash crops grown are
Beetle nut,
Paddy,
Raagi,
Areca nut,
Coffee ,
Coconut ,
Banana ,
Pan leaves and
Corn.
Vigyan Industries, a subsidiary of BEML is present near
Tarikere town. It is a major producer of steel castings.
Business and Economy:

Kallhattigiri falls,
Habbe falls,
Amrithapura,
Sri Santedibba,

Kemmannugundi, is a popular hill station in
Tarikere Taluk.
Amrithapura, in Tarikere taluk is a temple town
famous for the Amritheshwara temple which was
constructed by the Hoysalas.
Kallhattigiri is a popular mini falls on the top of
lord Veera bhadra temple. Everyone must see
this beautiful place.
Other information:
Tarikere is immortalized in the popular Kannada
tongue-twister "Tarikere Kere Eri mele mooru
kari kuri meyutittu".
Every year in Tarikere, procession of Lord
subramanya (Car Festival) will be taken out
during December-January month (Pushya
Shuddha Shasti), which attracts large crowd.
Every year in the month of February all Tarikeren
celebrate one great festival called " Ammana
Habba".

Tarikere is also belongs to my native.
In Tarikere you can see biggest and oldest trees
in the both side of the roads.
In Tarikere two major communities “Devanga”
and “Kuruba”. are influenced the whole area.

Intellectual problems
Transport problems
Problems of refugees
Loss of natural resources
Conclusion:
As a Tarikerean I have the more
respect about my native as well as I
know the real problems of my native.
Finally I whish to tell that
Tarikere is beautiful town and
Tarikereans are also beautiful. In life
every one must visit my native place
Tarikere.
