1.4 TED Talk Analysis: Assignment How does artificial intelligence learn? RAYMOND JOHNSON 08/31/23

Why was this presentation powerful or moving? Based on the near future we are relying more on technology to complete our productivity with less use of human interaction. Creating tools so that we can advance as humans utilizing the technologies automated thinking to speed up the processes of our health technology, patient diagnosis and treatments. Why did you like this presentation? Was it the content alone, or was it how the speaker delivered the content? I enjoyed the tone of the presentation. The voice used to speak I felt was very calming yet informative. Allowing you to think and imagine the process of information as she spoke. However, the digital graphics used did not match the content of which it was speaking about. It was completely confusing and very distracting because the digital graphics were constantly moving taking away from the health care information and progress of AI helping in the healthcare industry.

What made the content appealing? What made it relatable? Originally, I was attracted to the title and the graphics displayed. It draws you in to want to learn more. As I watched this video, I found it relatable because you think of the human body as a machine. AI is teaching itself and duplicating learned information on rapid levels. As our bodies are pretty much doing the same process of generating cells and duplicating that information in a rapid pace. We are constantly teaching ourselves and changing how we learn by adapting to our environments. AI is also gathering its information and adapting at a highly rapid pace to be ahead of the environment to achieve information and results faster than the human mind/body. This makes usable information easier to obtain for our ever changing and growing technology .

How did the speaker draw you in to care about the subject/topic? The speaker draws you in by relating how AI learns. Because we are learning everyday as humans; AI is repeating that process every second. Supervised learning, Unsupervised learning and reinforcement learning are used in AI. Just like humans, there needs to be information taught, learned and then reinforced so we can grow and improve. Basically, the speaker shares how that process works and related that information to human technology and our bodies for treatments and diagnosis for future healthcare and other technologies.

What did you get out of the presentation that you would not have experienced reading an article about the topic? The graphics allow you to imagine the technology of AI in movement. Although the digital art didn’t really match what the conversation of what it was about, You are still able to visualize a machine (computer) working at high speed. Processing information like our brains without interruption. I think just reading this information as a typed article would leave out the movement used to allow you to interpret a machine in constant motion, learning, processing and giving a result.

What kinds of emotions did the presenter elicit? How did they do this? The emotions the speaker presented were calm and clear. Exact information was presented. There were no ups or downs. Just complete words speaking to you flowing manor allowing you to understand and comprehend the data as she spoke. PHOTO COURTESY OF: UNSPLASH.COM

10 QUALITIES, TECHNIQUES &/OR SKILLS STEP 3 The presentation used extensive graphics that were complicated and hard to follow. This video was extremely informative. For example: they were very detailed in how the AI machine worked and what samples it used and how it duplicated information on a rapid level. Although it was hard to follow along, you could understand what the topics were about due to the fact it related to patients, doctors & healthcare. Each part of the video was constantly moving but not in a good way. I would have chosen less complicated digital graphics so that the audience could see and understand where the topics were going. This presentation would be better as a live presentation allowing for the audience to ask questions because of the scientific nature of the subject/topic. The speaker’s voice was clear/accurate, and her tone was good but there was so much information that you would need to rewatch the video to make sure you didn’t miss anything. I was inspired by the data needed to present this topic. Healthcare and the rapidly growing use of AI technology is the path of our future. The quality of the presentation was good. They used a lot of graphics and sound to create a very colorful illustration of how AI works. To be more effective as a video I would have chosen pictures of digital images of AI technology at work rather than the graphics they used. It was too busy. I was inspired by the topic because technology and the use of AI are being used and tested now and its adaptability to our society may have a great improvement on how we treat patients and how we perform our jobs in the future.

10 QUALITIES, TECHNIQUES &/OR SKILLS STEP 3 CONTINUED… This presentation is a perfect example of why this topic should be a live PowerPoint presentation and not just a video. As you watch this video you cannot concentrate on what the topic is about due to the fact you are trying to watch the digital graphics. Although the information was very informative, you would definitely need to rewatch this presentation a couple of times. The digital graphics did not match the information being given. It was to much like a video game. For such a serious topic as AI and healthcare; I would have chosen photos to identify each section of how the AI was gathering and processing information and I would have used slides of the human brain to compare it to during the video. I would keep some of the digital graphics for the intro/outro, but I would simplify it. Over-all my opinion of this presentation is complicated but very informative if you can follow along.
