most of you may be unknown…
.
Let us begin with it!!
ART AND CULTURE
ART & CULTURE
Telangana is widely famous for its traditional art and culture.
Telangana State has long been a meeting place for diverse languages
and cultures. It is easily the best example for India’s composite
culture, pluralism and inclusiveness. Located on the uplands of
Deccan plateau, Telangana is the link between the North and South of
India. It is thus no surprise that the region on the whole came to be
known for its Ganga-Jamuna Tehzeeb and the capital Hyderabad as a
‘miniature India!’ Some classical art forms received the royal
patronage and attained finesse. However, the art forms of the
innumerable communities spread across the length and breadth of
the State give Telangana its distinct identity. Several art forms like
above mingled and new forms emerged. The ubiquitous ‘Dhoom
Dham’ is one such evolved and composite art form. They generally
were about the struggle and exploitation. People adopted the old
sensibilities of theatre and art changing the content as per the case
and place.
MUSIC
AND DANCE
FORMS
MUSIC AND DANCE FORMS
The state is celebrated for its vibrant culture and dances form an integral part of the
same. With origin of Telangana from Andhra Pradesh, the dance form also has a new
address. With a cultural history that dates back to thousands of centuries, dance,
music, and art still hold the age-old quintessence. These Telangana folk dances
reflect the legends, beliefs, and everyday life activities of the state and allow you to
take a sneak-peek into the same. With different backgrounds and significance, every
dance has its own essence that is unparalleled and commendable.
So, here are some of the most popular folk dances of Telangana.

In Telangana the men and women wear different traditional dresses. The
cotton-producing units of Telangana are famous worldwide. The state is also
renowned for its exquisite tie-and-dye techniques. Women generally wear saris,
churidars, and langa voni. The most famous saris of Telangana culture and
tradition include Gadwal Sari, Pochampally Silk Sari, and Ikat Sari. However,
many women wear western clothes as well. Traditional dress for men folk in
Telangana includes the Dhoti, also known as pancha. In the earlier times, the
Nizams and other nobles of Hyderabad preferred to wear Hyderabadi
sherwanis. It is usually worn by grooms during wedding ceremonies in
Telangana today.
MONUMENTS
Historical places in Telangana are largely the ruins and monuments of the
formidable Nawabs and grand ancient temples. Almost every area in the capital
city of Hyderabad has a significant historical monument making Telangana an
ideal place for heritage and culture lovers. The unique Telugu-speaking
Telangana has a distinct history and the relics of the vast legacy are the
incredible monuments in the state. The major number of Monuments in
Telangana reveal the history and legacy of the rule of Nizams of Hyderabad. The
ruling powers had a number of forts and palaces to their name. Several tourist

including Charminar, Ramoji Film City, Hussain Sagar Dam, Golconda Fort,
Mecca Masjid, Bhadrachalam Temple, Bhongir Fort, and many more.

Telangana cuisine is a food culture unique to Telangana Region. The Telangana state lies on the
Deccan plateau and its topography dictates more millets and roti based dishes.
Telangana Cuisine is typically spicy and ingredients such as tamarind, sesame seeds, red chillies
and asafoetida are widely used in a variety of vegetarian and non-vegetarian dishes. Roselle is a
staple item used in making curries and pickles. Sources state that while in Telangana, millet
bread/roti is a staple diet its neighbouring state of Andhra prefers rice. Hyderabad is the shared
capital of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana and is obviously wildly popular for its biryanis and
Karachi biscuits. But there is so much more to Telangana Food that many of us are completely
unaware of.

FESTIVALS
FESTIVALS
The state’s calendar is dotted with celebrations throughout the year.
Telangana, the north western region of the erstwhile Andhra Pradesh and a separate state
now, has a culture that is quite distinct from the other Telugu-speaking regions. The festivals
celebrated in this state are marked by colour, veritable customs and legends and have well-
defined rituals, steeped in myth and symbolism. There are two things that are very striking
about Telangana’s festivals. One, the exceptional veneration of female deities and
participation of women, and two, the universality and secularity of the festivities, which
encompass people of all castes and faiths with equal and uniform fervor. Apart from the
major festivals such as Makara Sankranti, Dasara, Deepavali and Ugadi, the Telugu new year,
there are innumerable festivals and fairs that make the calendar in Telangana a multi-hued
tapestry of celebration. Also noteworthy is the way the major festivals are customized in the
region, adding lore and legend to it, making the occasions as much a local celebration as a
festival to most regions of India.
