The agenda of National Education
from view of
Mahatma Gandhi
Rabindranath Tagore
What he thought about
Western Education
He said that it focused on reading and
writing rather than oral language;
valued textbooks than lived experience
and practical knowledge. He argued
that education ought to develop a
person’s mind and soul. Literacy –or
simple learning to write did not count s
education. People had to learn a
craft, work with hands and know how
different things re operated. This would
develop their mind and capacity to
understand.
