Battle of Berlin

Jordan Weller and Lucas Strait

Before the battle
•British and American plains bomb Berlin
continuously for two years

Joseph Stalin
•Sends two Russian Generals: Zhukov and
Konev to have a race to the capital of
Germany
•Along the way they both had many military
advantages over the Germans
•All the way to Berlin the Nazi’s were forced
to retreat or surrender

Both young and old men
•Fought on the front line for the German’s
during the battle
•The Nazi’s had made the Russians seem like
horrible people and they felt like they had to
protect their city.

How it began
•Battle began on April 6, 1945
•Millions of shells were fired into the city

Russian tank struggles
•Russia’s vast tanks didn’t matter because of all
the rubble and debris laying all over the
streets.
•The Germans were able to use hit and run
tactics to take out Russian tanks

Russian’s Intervene
•The Russian’s would destroy an entire
building if they caught German soldiers firing
at them.

Hitler wants to stay
•Even though the situation seemed hopeless
Hitler stilled planned to defend Berlin from
the Russian armies.
•He believed that his Red Army forces would
be able to hold up against the Russians

Women afraid of Soviets
•Many women would make themselves look
as unattractive as possible
•They would put coal and rags over their faces
so that the soldiers would not do anything to
them

BATTLE ENDS!
•On May 2, 1945 Germany surrenders and
marks the end of World War 2 against the
Germans and their Allies other than Japan
